BUDGAM: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, chaired a meeting to review the implementation and progress of Bulk Waste Management measures across Municipal Committees (MCs) and blocks of the district.

The meeting focused on assessing the progress achieved against the targets and directions issued during the previous review meeting and taking stock of the measures being undertaken by the concerned departments and field functionaries for effective management of bulk waste.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress made by the concerned officers and sought an updated status of the targets assigned in the previous meeting. He stressed the need for sustained and coordinated efforts at the grassroots level to ensure scientific, systematic and environmentally responsible management of bulk waste across the district.

The DC directed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Executive Officers (EOs) of Municipal Committees to undertake a comprehensive exercise to identify Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) as well as potential bulk waste generators falling within their respective jurisdictions.

He further directed the concerned officers to ensure that all identified Bulk Waste Generators are properly registered, and that their waste-management practices are subsequently monitored on a regular basis.

The Deputy Commissioner laid particular emphasis on source segregation of waste, directing the field officers to verify whether registered bulk waste generators are segregating waste appropriately at source and adopting the prescribed waste-management practices. The officers were also instructed to conduct regular inspections and reviews to ensure compliance with the directions and guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India regarding proper waste management.

The officers were directed to ensure that the targets fixed during the previous review are pursued in a time-bound manner and that the progress achieved is periodically assessed at the appropriate level.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination towards strengthening bulk waste management mechanisms and ensuring effective implementation of waste segregation and management measures throughout the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Budgam Vivek Agarwal, Joint Director Planning Budgam, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Medical Officer, all Block Development Officers (BDOs), Block Medical Officers (BMOs), and Executive Officers (EOs) of Municipal Committees, besides other concerned officers.
