- Green Khimber initiative kicks off as students pledge for a sustainable future
SRINAGAR: In a remarkable step towards environmental conservation, NLCO launch of the Green Khimber Initiative at Bilaliya Educational Institute, Khimber Hazratbal Srinagar. The event featured a large-scale plantation drive, with Dr. G.N. Itoo, Director of School Education (JKAS), as the Chief Guest.Speaking at the event, Dr. G.N Itoo emphasized the significance of instilling eco-consciousness in young minds.
âEnvironmental responsibility must start from an early age. Initiatives like âOne Admission, One Treeâ will help nurture a generation that values sustainability,â he stated.The "One Admission, One Tree" initiative, announced by Dr. Itoo, aims to integrate environmental responsibility into the education system by ensuring every new student plants a tree upon admission. The first two days of the new academic session at Bilaliya Educational Institute were dedicated to environmental well-being, reinforcing sustainability as a core educational value.
NLCO Chairman Haji Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo said "We deeply appreciate the J&K Forest Department for their collaboration and generous contribution of saplings. The active participation of schoolchildren and stakeholders made this initiative even more impactful.
"The presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Mushtaq Margoob, Farooq Kuthoo, Peerzada Faiyaz Ahmed, Shamim Shah, Dr.Touseef Bhat, Abdul Rashid, Er. Shahnawaz, and others, along with the enthusiastic participation of students, added immense significance to the event. We are also grateful to organizations like TAFI, TAAK, and Kashmir Concern for their unwavering support. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to a greener, more sustainable Kashmir. Together, we will continue working towards a better and healthier environment for future generations.
