Pak PM plays to gallery yet again, misleads world community

Pakistan, it seems loves to  throw surprises and take sudden U turns  over issues that matter to both the countries— India and Pakistan, no wonder then these issues are more often taken as non serious commitments ventured by it only to play to the gallery.  The 4-point formula as proposed by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under new peace initiative, itself raised fingers on commitment of our neighbor country for more than one reason.

On one hand, it has been continuously making hue and cry at International fora on Kashmir, on other hand, it has been continuously supporting anti-India forces, separatists besides indulging in ceasefire violations and pushing in trained terrorists. These antagonistic approaches make things difficult and intent about so called peace initiative or the peace formula rather a mockery on the expression of the move itself.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who addressed United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, while raking up Kashmir, proposed 4-point formula as “peace initiative” and stated that “Cooperation, not confrontation, should define our relationship, which puzzles the people of J&K” . One wonders at this kind of posturing by the Premier of our neighboring nation. One wonders is he not aware that India has always extended a hand of cooperation and it is Pakistan, which always backtracked from its promise and adopted a path of confrontation.

Hence, the very mention of this line in his address and assertion for the same is totally contrary  to the ground realities. Among the 4-points, as proposed by Pak PM, first point says, “We propose that Pakistan and India formalize and respect the 2003 understanding for a complete ceasefire on the line of control in Kashmir. This point negates the very concept of what the contents say. Is it not true that  it is Pakistan itself which has always violated ceasefire. Nawaz Sharif must check up the record with his security forces and the reports in media, which corroborate this fact with ample statistics of figures as to how many times in this year alone Pakistan brazenly violated ceasefire agreement and resorted to unprovoked firing following which Indian side was prompted to take retaliatory action.

The second point says “Pakistan and India reaffirm that they will not resort to the use or the threat of use of force under any circumstances”. It again points question mark on the past track of Pakistan’s approach. Isn’t it a fact that Pakistan itself had threatened India of use of nuclear weapons.

The third point says “Steps be taken to demilitarize Kashmir”. This point is totally meaningless, keeping in view the situation in Kashmir for the last over 24 years. The Pak PM should refresh his memory that it was in  late 80’s that the proxy war was waged by Pakistan, which pushed trained terrorists to terrorize a particular community in Kashmir, which resulted into migration of lakhs of Kashmiri Hindu Pandit families from their motherland. Moreover, Nawaz Sharif must remember that like other states, Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and army has been positioned in Kashmir to protect sovereignty of the nation besides thwarting the continuous attempts of Pakistan, which push trained militants equipped with modern and sophisticated weaponary.

Lastly ,the fourth step as proposed by Nawaz Sharif says, “agree to an unconditional mutual withdrawal from Siachen Glacier, the World’s highest Battle Ground”. Before proposing this step, Pak PM must remember that forces were rushed to Siachen in 1999, when Pakistani troops made attempts to capture Siachen Mountains. However the million dollar question remains that can Nawaz Sharif make a commitment at UN Platform that whatever points he has proposed have the assent of the Army and ISI.

As far as India is concerned, Out Govt in past and now at present is very much serious about the talk and always favours dialogue process. Whether it was Atal Bihari Vajpaee’s Govt or present Narendra Modi’s Govt, we always prefer talks and dialogue but it was confronting Pakistan and its double standards that talks and dialogue affected due to hostile and non serious approach. It is not for the first time that Pakistan came up with such peace initiatives but the very fact is that every time under the carpet of dialogue and peace initiative, it has been raking up Kashmir. For India, the only unsettled issue between India and Pakistan is to get liberated the illegally occupied areas of J&K from the clutches of Pakistan.
