JAMMU: The Relief Organisation has refuted the news titled ‘Jagti Migrant Welfare Movement’ regarding appeal to the Government for release of two months ration and restoration of regular water supply in Jagti Township published by a local daily here yesterday.

The organisation, while terming the news as devoid of facts, clarified that there is no delay in release of ration quota as reflected in the news. It further explained that the ration quota for the month of May and June 2024 has already been released and is being issued.

“As far as supply of drinking water is concerned, this crucial misrepresentation has nothing to do with the facts. There has been no irregular water supply. The Relief Organisation has ensured a consistent and regular water supply to the inhabitants of Jagti Township,” clarified the official communique.

The organisation stated that the newspaper has not taken official version or cross checked the facts with the authorities of Relief Organisation. The article has presented one-sided perspective, and has not taken into account the efforts being put by the Relief  Organisation for welfare of the migrants.

  • DDC Chairperson B'la Safeena Baig inspects ongoing Development Projects

BARAMULLA: Chairperson, District Development Council  (DDC) Baramulla, Safeena Baig Saturday conducted a thorough inspection of various ongoing development projects across the district. Safeena Baig was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Qamar Sajad, and other senior officers and Engineers.

The inspection aimed to assess the progress and quality of construction projects currently underway in Baramulla. Safeena Baig emphasized the importance of timely completion and adherence to quality standards in all developmental initiatives. 

The key projects inspected included 100-bedded hostel at Polytechnic College Kanispora, Municipal Council office building at Baramulla, ongoing works of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, Water Supply Scheme Kanispora and Delina besides various other infrastructure and public amenity projects. 

These projects are vital for the enhancement of educational, healthcare, and municipal services in the district, reflecting the administration's commitment to comprehensive development.

During the inspection, DDC chairperson interacted with project engineers and contractors to review project timelines, infrastructure specifications, and address any challenges encountered during implementation. Chairperson directed Executing agencies to ensure efficient execution and timely completion of developmental projects for the benefit of the local communities.

Safeena Baig expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects and reiterated the need for maintaining high standards of quality and safety. She highlighted the impact these projects would have on improving the living standards of the residents and the overall development of the district.

ADDC Syed Qamar Sajad urged the officers and contractors to work diligently and efficiently. He stressed the importance of these projects in providing essential services to the public and enhancing the infrastructure of the district.

The projects inspected spanned key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and public amenities, reflecting the broad scope of development initiatives underway in District Baramulla. The administration’s proactive approach aims to expedite the completion of these projects to ensure they are delivered on time and meet the needs of the community.

  • 18th National Statistics Day celebrated at B'la, Kul, Spn & Kup

SRINAGAR: The 18th National Statistics Day was on Saturday celebrated across all the districts of Kashmir with great enthusiasm on the theme, ‘Use of Data for Decision Making.’

National Statistics Day is observed annually on June 29 in honor of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a pioneering Indian statistician whose contributions to statistics and economic planning have been invaluable.

On the occasion, a number of events were held in all the districts wherein the pivotal role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation was highlighted.

At Baramulla, a mega function was held at Dak Bungalow Baramulla, which was presided over by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa as the chief guest.

 In his address, the DDC emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in governance and development. He underscored the necessity of reliable and timely statistics in shaping policies that cater to the diverse needs of society.

Minga Sherpa lauded the efforts of statistical officers and officials in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data collected and urged them to continue their dedication to this crucial task.

Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Qamar Sajad and Chief Planning Officer Baramulla, Javed Ahmad who were also present at the event shared their insights on the significance of data in planning and development processes.

They highlighted the need for continuous improvement in data collection methods and encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate for enhancing the quality of statistics. Various concerned officers and officials actively participated in the function, reflecting a strong commitment to leveraging statistical data for effective decision-making.

The function concluded with a renewed pledge by all participants to uphold the principles of statistical accuracy and integrity, aiming to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making across various sectors.

At Kulgam, National Statistics Day was celebrated jointly by District Statistics and Evaluation Office Kulgam and Chief Planning office Kulgam today in the Conference Hall, at Mini secretariat, Kulgam.

The objective of celebrating this day was to sensitize the general people about the role of Statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.

During the event, the District Statistics and Evaluation Officer, Kulgam addressed the participants and highlighted contributions made by Late Prof P.C Mahalanobis and reminded the participants about the use of statistics and its importance in various fields of economic planning for the development and well-being of people.

He also emphasized the field functionaries to collect and compile data by improving its reliability for real time assessment of performance in various sectors of the economy.

The Chief Planning Officer and other officers also provided their views on the notable contributions made by Professor Late P.C Mahalanobis and impressed the participants on the better understanding of Statistical information emanating from official statistics and for facilitating evidence based decision making in the formulation of planning and policy formulation.

At Shopian, the District Statistics & Evaluation Office Shopian organized an event to commemorate 18th National Statistics Day at Mini Secretariat Shopian in which Statistical Staff posted in different offices participated.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by District Statistics & Evaluation Officer (DSEO) Shopian, Bilkeesa Zahoor who underscored the significance of Statistics in governance and policy making.

DSEO while speaking on the occasion stressed upon the collection of actual and accurate data which is the basic need for accurate planning.

Shedding light on the theme ‘Use of Data for Decision Making,’ she said the celebration of this day aims to educate people on the importance of knowing the basics of Statistics as it plays a major role in the informed policy decisions, efficient governance and improvement in the quality of life of citizens.

On the occasion, Officers and officials paid rich tributes to the legendary Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis, a great Indian Statistician for his contribution in Statistics.

At Kupwara, a function was today organized at D.C Office Kupwara under the chairmanship of Chief Planning Officer, Parvaiz Ahmad to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of Indian Statistics, Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.

On the occasion, a pledge was taken to acknowledge the importance of Statistics on our understanding of the world and decision making process in every domain of our lives. 

The CPO and other officers spoke and highlighted the importance of celebrating the National Statistics Day. Chief Planning Officer, Parvaiz Ahmad; District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, Bashir Ahmad Malik, AD Planning, Ghulam Nabi Najar and other concerned officials were present on the occasion. 

  • DDC Doda reviews progress achieved under District Capex Budget

DODA:   District Development Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh chaired a meeting here today to review the implementation of the district capital expenditure (capex) budget. The meeting was attended by heads of line departments, block development officers, and other key stakeholders involved in the budget's implementation and supervision. The departments discussed included health, education, irrigation, R&B, district youth services and sports, and MCD Doda. The Deputy Commissioner was informed about the details of all ongoing works under the capex budget.

The DC directed the BDOs to prioritize infrastructure and renovation of elementary and higher secondary schools. He also urged the illumination of bridges.

During the meeting, Chief Planning Officer (CPO) of Doda, Manesh Kumar Manhas, provided a detailed overview of the current status of the district's capex budget, highlighting the progress of ongoing projects and the allocation of funds. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for timely and efficient utilization of the budget to ensure the completion of development projects within stipulated timeframes. Singh also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the execution of these projects.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all department heads to submit regular progress reports and to address any bottlenecks that might hinder the smooth implementation of the budget. He called for the prioritization of key infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, food stores, and healthcare facilities, to enhance the overall development of the district. Singh also encouraged the adoption of innovative solutions to expedite project completion and maximize the impact of allocated funds.

Additionally, DC Doda urged all stakeholders to work in close coordination and ensure active community participation in the development process. He highlighted the importance of public feedback and involvement in identifying priority areas and monitoring project progress. The meeting concluded with a commitment from all participants to diligently work towards achieving the district's development goals and ensuring optimal utilization of the capex budget for community benefit.

The meeting was attended by CPO Manesh Kumar Manhas; ACD Manoj Kumar; ACP  Musharaf Ali Haf; CEO PL Thapa, , SEs of PWD (R&B), BDOs and representatives of concerned departments. 

The DC emphasized the completion of all development works within stipulated timeline to ensure benefits reach to the public. He also directed concerned officers to ensure that works under the district capex budget do not exceed allocated funds. The ACD listed the works taken up under the district capex budget, including tile works, link roads, and the establishment of animal husbandry centers.

Furthermore, the DC directed officers to ensure the completion of all proposed works under the district capex budget. He also emphasized the installation of CCTV cameras with solar system connections in all panchayats and the provision of electricity poles. The DC stressed that small works should be targeted under area capex budgets and directed the R&B department to install a large LED screen in the town. Discussions included plans for road widening from Ganpat Bridge to Khellani and allocation for blacktopping roads, with a focus on Jai Valley roads.

The main focus of the meeting was on the upgrading of  educational infrastructure, installation of LED screens, illumination of bridges, renovation of the sports stadium in Doda, construction of playgrounds in every panchayat, city beautification, and the setup of a kitchen shed in the community hall in Doda. During the meeting, the DC said that the construction of playgrounds and the renovation and upgradation of school infrastructure are important and priority works under the district capex budget.

JAMMU: Chief Engineer (Distribution), JPDCL Jammu has informed that the power supply to Hatli Village, Sawla, Bikhit, Tridwan, Khanyra, Maroli, Jagatpur and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 30 from 5 am to 9 am.

Similarly, the power supply to Lakhri, Tharakalyal, Gurah, Ludera, Garh and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 30 from 5 am to 10 am. Likewise, the power supply to Sota, Changa, Dosa and adjoining areas will remain affected on July 01 from 6 am to 2 pm.

Similarly, the power supply to Marmat, Humbal, Prabal and adjoining areas will remain affected on July 02 from 6 am to 2 pm. Likewise, the power supply to Laiter, Kali Dhar and PHE will remain affected on June 30 and July 01 from 8 am to 2 pm.

Similarly, the power supply to Panthal, Sundrani, Searly, Sughal Gatti, Trikuta Industry, PHE and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 30 and July 02 from 8 am to 2 pm. Likewise, the power supply to Arnas, Dharmari, Mahore, Sarbaga, Gulabgarh, Chassana and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 30 from 8 am to 2 pm.
