JAMMU: The BJP State Spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo in a meeting today appreciated the stand of the United Nations Security Council on Kashmir issue. He said that the formal closed-door meeting of the UNSC ended without any outcome, as usual, when Kashmir was brought into discussion by China.
This once again highlighted Pakistan's desperate measures to peddle baseless allegations and present an alarming scenario. The UNSC's closed-door meeting was called to discuss an issue relating to an African country. China made a request to deliberate on the Kashmir issue under the agenda of "Any Other Business Points." No other UNSC member, barring China, commented on the meeting after it ended given that it was an "informal consultation" only.
Chrungoo said that India has time and again made it clear that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan and there is no scope for any third-party mediation. Russian Ambassador Nokole Kudashave's statement in Delhi that "Russia has no doubt on Indian policies and those who have any kind of doubt should visit Kashmir" is commendable. The envoy further added that Russia had never been in favour of bringing Kashmir into the United Nations. "It is a bilateral issue".
Chrungoo added that Pakistan PM Imran Khan's desperation can be gauged from his recent statement given to a German based news agency that "there are no takers of the Kashmir issue from the international community". Khan's admission that there has been a "lukewarm response" to the Kashmir issue and that "commercial interests are more important for the Western countries" is a pointer towards Pakistan's consistent failures despite its international lobbying against India. Khan went to admit that "the world is paying little attention to the Kashmir issue".
Chrungoo maintained that the two visits of the foreign law makers, envoys and diplomats to Jammu and Kashmir recently have brought realities regarding Jammu and Kashmir to the limelight in context of international opinion and concern. It needs to be clarified that India has nothing to hide in Kashmir.
