NEW DELHI: Babar the son of the soil was conferred with the prestigious Bharat Gaurav Award at the India Islamic Cultural Center. Babar is the founder of KASHMIRINK and the Global Pashmina Goat Project. As a serial entrepreneur, writer and an abstract artist he has been working to create global attraction for J&K with his work.
Featured regularly in state, national and international media, he has been referred many times as "the most credible man on Pashmina in the world". He is also a proud recipient of the Shri. Rabindranath Tagore, B R Ambedkar Award and Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Awards.
As a professional he has worked with top organizations including McKinsey & Company Inc. and Computer Associates in India, USA, UK, Middle East and Saudi Arabia as a Business Consultant, Hacker and an Information Security Architect and Project Manager. He is a graduate in Electronics and a Post Graduate in Business and hold over 25 High End International Business and Computer Certifications and is also a Certified PMP from PMI (USA).
The problems faced by the Pashmina Eco-System in Himalayas forced Babar to quit his corporate career and turn into an Activist and a Shepherd who has been highlighting the issues linked to climate change and injustice in the pashmina eco-system across Himalayas and has been travelling and living with Shepherds to understand the challenges faced by the communities. In the past few years he has held many impactful press conferences, abstract art exhibitions, created deterrents for fake pashmina traders, hosted pashmina fair trade events, Pashmina fashion shows, and has fought battles to safe guard the interest of the communities. He is popularly referred to as the most credible voice on Pashmina in the world for his work on the subject.
Babar who is regularly covered by state, national and international media and was recently profiled by BBC, Bloomberg and TIME Magazine in their "Genius Issue" where only ten people have ever been profiled so far from around.
