JAMMU: A resident of Gund Gujran Karnah, Baramulla Shri Naseer Ahmad Kohli was born to Smt Raja Begum and Shri Shams-din-Kolie in June 1983. He did his schooling from local Govt Middle School, Karnah. He joined Police organization as constable in 2011. Due to his sheer dedication and honesty towards his chosen profession he was given out of turn promotion in 2016.
On February 28, 2019, at 2300 hrs contingents of Police, Army and CRPF acting on tip off regarding presence of terrorists launched a search operation in and around village Babagund, Handwara in the late evening.
Soon after the crackdown forces zeroed in one of the houses and at around 02.30 AM contact was established with the terrorists that led to an encounter. It was congested area and security forces showed maximum restraint to avoid any casualty to the civilian during the night.
Next day, while a joint team of forces including Sgct Naseer were evacuating civilians from the encounter site, the terrorists hiding behind a shed, fired indiscriminately and that led to a renewed gunfight. In that gunfight SgCt Naseer Ahmad Kolie and a CRPF Inspector attained martyrdom on spot.
The encounter was one among few encounters that lasted for more than 72 hours. In this operation martyr Naseer Ahmad displayed conspicuous gallantry, courage and devotion of duty of higher order. His role in saving the civilians during such a hostile situation was commendable. Martyr Naseer Ahmad Kolie is survived by parents, wife, 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.
