BHADERWAH: The Department of Geography at the Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus University of Jammu, celebrated World Environment Day by organizing a plantation drive. The event saw enthusiastic participation from   both students and teachers who  planted trees across the campus.

Marking this special occasion, the department launched a new initiative wherein each first-semester student will plant a tree and commit to nurturing it throughout their two-year course. This initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Chhering Tandup, In-Charge Head of the Department of Geography, is supported by Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, the Rector of Bhaderwah Campus.

Rector Bhaderwah Campus , Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel congratulated the students and faculty of the Department of Geography for their proactive efforts. He emphasized the critical importance of tree plantation, noting, "Plantation is the need of the hour. This initiative will not only beautify our campus but also play a vital role in mitigating environmental challenges."

Rector Bhaderwah Campus further said that the event underscored the collective commitment of the Bhaderwah Campus community to fostering a greener and more sustainable environment. “The Department of Geography’s ongoing efforts will serve as an inspiration for other departments and institutions to undertake similar environmentally conscious actions,” he added

Dr. Chhering Tandup Incharge Department of Geography highlighted the initiative's significance, stating, "Our goal is to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among students and contribute to the reduction of pollution, enhancement of the local ecosystem, and overall improvement of biodiversity on the campus."

Dr. Shayan Javed, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bhaderwah Campus, also spoke on the occasion and laid stress upon the students to work for the betterment of society by planting plant saplings. Present on the occasion were Miss Hardeep Kour, Mr Naveen, Mrs Ramana Devi and Miss Muskan.
