JAMMU: 'Save Animals Value Environment' (SAVE), an NGO working for the welfare of animals has strongly condemned Kerala”s complete disregard for animal rights and open disregard for Hon’ble Supreme court of India.
Ms Rumpy Madaan Chairperson SAVE along with Social Activist S. Balvinder Singh, Gen Secretary Tarun Gupta, Secretary Raman Gupta, Ms Hemun Karki, Ms Puja Rampal & Ms Anamika all members SAVE showed solidarity with the animal lover all over the world, who called for this boycott movement against Kerala’s Complete disregard life and law. The State is indulging in :-
1. Mass killing of Stray Dogs. 2. Cow slaughter
3. Skinning alive of protected spicies like turtles. 4. Torture of elephants.
There is concern over the booming dog population in our State of Jammu and Kashmir which is leading to man animal conflicts. The animals and the society cannot be made to suffer for the lethargy of the Government of our State. even after the Hon’ble High Court Judgement in a PIL, dated 28/04/2011, in which the Hon’ble Courts has directed the State that instead of killing the stray dogs other scientific methods i.e sterilization berth control measures and other humane programmes are to be adopted. The Court further directed to the State government for adopting three main points to address the dog menance at the war footing : -
(a) Provide space to both the Municipalities of the State for building Pounds for keeping sick and abandoned animals.
(b) Provide funds for the same. (c) Invite Bids in the national Media to carry out the animal Birth Control Programme.
The court was very specific about making space for housing sterlized dogs from over populated locality and Municipal Corporation should care for their food and medicines in a humane manner. As per the information received under RTI it reveals that no funds has been received by the Municipal corporation Jammu. In fours years period only 463 dogs are sterilized in Srinagar against the Population of one lakh Dogs, and only 260 doga are sterilized in Jammu against the population of 50, 000, dogs. Besides providing fund the State Government has not yet identified any land for the abandoned animals which includes all animals including horses, cows , goats, donkeys etc.
Let the Kerala Boycott be a Wake up call for our State or soon we will be standing infront of the world community and facing a similar boycott for the rising number of poisioning, killing and displacing of stray dogs being reported from all parts of the State.
There is a ban on cow slaughter in our State but till date our Government has not made any provision to make bovine smuggling laws effective even after the clear guidelines from the Hon’ble Supreme Court regarding the said issue. The abondened and sick cows and their male calfs, who are left on the roads by their owners, It could be anybody’s guess where these cows and calves go ?.
Closing our eyes to the problems does not lead to the solutions. If Jaipur and Ahemadabad Govt. Can control their dog population in a effective manner without killing the animals and bringing dg bite case to zero why not Our State.
There is always a better way, a Humane way. Respect for life in every form is our Indian culture’s dignity . lets all abide by it
All the present in the press conference urged upon the State govt, on behalf of all the people of the State to abide by the High Court’s Directions and address this problem of stray dogs on war footings, in humane and permissible manner. SAVE also urge upon the authorities, if the State government is sincere in its efforts to handle the dog problem in a humane way he should invite bidding for the sterilization of dogs at the earliest.
We want to live in such Swatch Bharat where people give respect to every living beings as God’s creations.
