JAMMU: Government departments, educational institutions and district administrations organised varied awareness and promotional activities on environment conservation and sustainable development to observe World Environment Day

UDHAMPUR: World Environment Day was celebrated today at the District Headquarter Udhampur with special cleanliness drives and events aimed at raising public awareness about environmental protection.

 Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai visited the District Water Testing Laboratory, where she planted a tree. She inspected and enquired about the functioning of the wet and bacteriological labs.  

A series of awareness activities, plantation and cleanliness drives were conducted by the Rural Development Department and other line departments with active participation of general public  

 SAMBA: The District Administration of Samba celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with great enthusiasm and commitment to the environment. This year’s theme, "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience," was at the heart of the day's activities held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma.

A massive plantation drive was conducted in the premises of the DC Office Samba jointly by the Geology & Mining and the Forest Departments.

Meanwhile, plantation drives were conducted by Samba Forest Division in Collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Police, District Administration  and 157 Inf Bn in  District Court Complex Samba. The plantation drive was conducted under the chairmanship of Adnan Sayeed, Pr. District and Session Judge. Various plants like Bahera (Terminalia bellarica), Satpatra (Alstonia scholaris), Tacoma stans and Araucaria were planted by Sub Judges, Munsiff judges, Advocates and Bar Association Samba. At the end of the occasion 20 saplings were also distributed among the public.

KISHTWAR: The World Environment Day was celebrated today across Kishtwar district under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav and  in alignment to this year's theme "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience," Key stakeholders including the Forest Department, Rural Development Department, District Administration, CVPP authorities, GDCs, school students, civil society members, and NGOs among others  were involved in the extensive plantation and cleanliness drive  across all Amrit Sarovars in the district's 13 blocks   

REASI: To promote tourism and raise environmental awareness, the District Administration Reasi, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, celebrated World Environment Day at Tourist Village Chinka. The event highlighted the natural beauty of the region and emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices. District Development Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan was the chief guest.

The event was marked by a variety of activities and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable tourism. Departmental stalls were installed to inform and educate the public about different government schemes. Attendees from adjoining locations took advantage of these informational stalls, gaining valuable insights into the benefits and services offered by different departments.

Adding to the excitement of the day, a variety of adventure activities were organized by the Department of Tourism, significantly contributing to the local economy and promoting Reasi as a destination for adventure enthusiasts.

Directorate of Horticulture Jammu: A grand event was organised at Directorate of Horticulture Jammu to celebrate World Environment Day under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture C. L Sharma. More than 100 farmers including women drawn from different parts of Jammu District were part of the event.  Further, the fruit plants of different fruit crops were distributed among the participants.

Department of Wildlife Protection hosted  a trek event on Manda Trail Road Jammu  to celebrate World Environment Day 2024 with the theme “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience” followed by slogan “Our Land. Our Future, we are “Generation Restoration.”

A number of Morning Walkers, Students of Jammu University, Visitors to Manda Trail Road, prominent persons of the area and staff of Wildlife Division Jammu participated in the trek.

Forest Protection Force Department J&K celebrated World Environment Day in all 23 FPF Gamma Units across J&K under this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”. Multiple activities were held across J&K by Forest Protection Force personnel in their respective jurisdictions which include plantation drives, green marches, cleaning of Campuses and plastic free drives.

The main event was held at FPF Headquarter Complex Jammu. A green march was held by FPF Personnel from FPF Headquarters to Environmental Park Raika Jammu and en-route all plastic bags and other plastic based products were collected and disposed off.  Later, a plantation drive was held in the campus of FPF Headquarter Jammu.

Kathua Forest Division celebrated World Environment Day 2024 in collaboration with Government Model HSS (Girls) Kathua at School premises.  2 Saplings of Peepal tree were planted with all rituals. Likewise, an Anti Polythene drive was organized at Lakhanpur APCP. The officials distributed cotton bags among locals to discourage polythene.

 Nowshera Forest Division hosted a series of programmes to mark the celebration of World Environment Day 2024 by Nowshera Forest Division.

Sunderbani Forest Range celebrated world environment day by planting Rudraksh trees in ITI/ADC complex, followed by a cleanliness drive at Forest Range office Complex. The

Pollution Control Committee Ramban conducted a significant plantation drive under the Mission Life programme. As many as 350 saplings were planted to enhance the local environment and promote sustainability.

 The event saw active participation from community members, volunteers, and employees of both organizations. Together, they worked diligently to plant saplings across selected areas, ensuring proper spacing and care to maximize the survival and growth of the young trees.

 DLSA Kathua: District Legal Services Authority Kathua, under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority and as per the Action plan issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, (JKLSA) for the month of June, 2024 and also under the guidance and overall supervision of its Chairman (Principal District & Sessions Judge Kathua) Ashok Kumar Shavan, organised a plantation drive to observe the 'World Environment Day' at Ashoka Law College Kathua.

The Chairman District Legal Services Authority Kathua- the chief guest inaugurated the programme. In his address, Chairman, DLSA Kathua encouraged everyone to plant more trees and preserve the environment. He also raised awareness about protecting nature.

Earlier, Lecturer Suparan Sharma presented a welcome address besides Vote of thanks was delivered by Lecturer Ritika Sharma. The programme was attended by all the faculty members of Ashoka Law College Kathua, Staff of Pr. District and Sessions Court Kathua, Officers of Legal Aid Defence Counsel Kathua, Staff and PLVs of DLSA Kathua.

DLSA Samba: In a significant initiative towards preservation and restoration  of our depleting Environment and to stimulate the world wide awareness of Environment Conservation, the District Legal Services Authority Samba under the guidance and overall supervision of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Samba (also Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge Samba) organized a tree plantation drive today in collaboration with Forest Division, Samba at District Court Complex, Samba.

The plantation drive was formally inaugurated by Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Samba (also Pr. District & Sessions Judge Samba) by planting saplings. 

During a special ceremony, the female Advocates of District Court Samba were also presented with a variety of plant saplings by District Legal Services Authority Samba as a symbol of growth, sustainability and nurturing the environment. The objective of organizing the tree plantation drive was to raise awareness as to how these trees are an investment for the future generations that shall provide natural shade in open spaces and provide cleaner air to breathe by increasing green cover.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kathua celebrated World Environment Day in Said Sohal village adopted under NICRA project.  The Chief Guest of today's programme was Director Extension SKUAST Jammu Dr Amrish Vaid. More than 300 farmers actively participated in the programme. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat.

 GCW Parade: To promote environmental sustainability, Government College for Women, Parade Ground has launched a series of initiatives and week-long activities aimed at making the campus plastic-free. The initiatives, unveiled today in conjunction with World Environment Day, mark a significant step in the college’s ongoing commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices and raising awareness about environmental issues.  

The college organised a series of events like Pledge taking, screening a documentary on plastic pollution, creating awareness among the community where around 100 NSS Volunteers, Eco Club Volunteers and Science Club volunteers participated.

Government Degree College Vijaypur: Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club (Green Warriors)of Government Degree College Vijaypur organized various activities to celebrate World Environment Day 2024.  

Nearly 20 Green Volunteers of the college actively participated in the poster making competition on the theme: Land restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience.  

Students of the college along with Principal and Faculty members installed earthen water pots across the campus to provide our feathered friends with access to water during rising temperatures.  

 GDC Marheen: The NSS Unit and Eco Club of GDC Marheen celebrated Environment Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “Restore Our Earth” in the college premises for creating awareness among the students.

 A large number of Volunteers and students participated in the event. Shania, Koushika and Ritika shared their views on the mentioned theme. The staff members presented during the programme were Prof. Sandeep, Dr. Balbinder, Dr. Munisha and Dr. Shallu.

 GDC Ramgarh: NSS unit ‘Prabha’ and EVS department of GDC Ramgarh jointly celebrated World Environmental Day.   The event began with plantation drive, Saplings of Amla and Neem trees were planted on the campus.

A webinar was also organized by EVS Department wherein, the resource person Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, HoD, EVS delivered an extensive and informative Powerpoint presentation, emphasizing the significance of environmental conservation and the urgent need to address land degradation and enhance drought resilience.

Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli, in collaboration with the NCC unit of 4 J&K Battalion, celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about the critical need to protect and preserve the environment.

The event was held in and around the college campus and included a Plantation Drive, Cleanliness Drive, Poster Making, Environment Awareness Rally and a Pledge to Protect the Environment.

GDC Mahanpur: NSS Unit of GDC Mahanpur, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education celebrated World Environment Day with this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”

 Plantation, installation of water pots for birds and cleaning of dry pine needles were some of the environmental measures conducted in the campus. Many species of medicinal, ornamental and flowering plants were planted in the campus. Moreover, many water pots were installed in different areas of the College for the birds.

 GDC Dharmari: The National Service Scheme Unit of Government Degree College, Dharmari celebrated World Environment Day by organising a bunch of activities like Plantation Drive, Slogan Writing and Poster-making Competition.

 The day started with the Plantation drive in which Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dharmari,  Tariq Aziz, ASP Arnas Irfan Khan, Divisional Forest Officer Mahore, Qamar Rashid Khan (SFS), Principal of the College Dr. Preetpal Kour and NSS Program Officer Prof. Ajay Kumar along with other staff  members and volunteers planted different saplings of plants in the new campus of the college.

 Second Program of the day was Slogan Writing Competition on the topic ‘Save the Environment’ in which Rubeena Akhter of BA Semester 4th got the first position, where as Abida Parveen and Manju Kousser both from BA Semester 2nd remained at second and third place.

The last Program of the day was Poster-making competition in which Sapna Devi from Semester 4th clinched the first place while Shaina Akhter and Mohd Nasar stood second and third spot respectively.  

Government College for Women Udhampur: A mega plantation drive was organized by NCC Battalion at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with the District Forest Office Udhampur.

The NCC cadets actively participated in the plantation drive, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation. They not only planted numerous saplings but also adopted the trees, pledging to take care of them and ensure their growth. The plantation was followed by a nukkad natak displayed at the institution. This adoption initiative is part of a long-term strategy to nurture the saplings into mature trees.

GDC Kathua: NSS and NCC units of GDC Kathua in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science of the College celebrated World Environment Day by organizing a series of activities including a Symposium, Poster presentation, Plantation Drive and Save Environment Pledge ceremony. The celebration was held on the global theme of "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” under the patronage of worthy Principal, Prof. Seema Mir.

GDC Kishtwar: A powerful play "Mein Dharti" was staged in observance of World Environment Day at Government Degree College Kishtwar.

The play, a collaborative effort of the Department of Environmental Sciences, the NSS Unit, Kiru HE Power Project CVPPL, and JKPCC Kishtwar, delivered a thought-provoking message about the human impact on the planet, showcasing the destructive consequences of human greed through captivating storytelling.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, the chief guest commended GDC Kishtwar for its impactful production and urged the college to continue its environmental initiatives in collaboration with the CVPP authorities and district administration.

GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organized a guest lecture on the World Environment Day. The theme of the world environment day 2024 is “land restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience”.

The Resource Person on the occasion was Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Govt. Degree college, Billawar. Dr Amrik Singh.  

A poster making competition was also organized in which about 15 students participated with great enthusiasm. The first prize was bagged by Anu Sambyal (Semester IV), Suhani Sharma (semester II) won second prize & third prize was given to Taniya Sharma (Semester II) and Deepka Chambyal (semester II). 

GDA leads World Environment Day celebrations with Mega Cleanliness Drive

BARAMULLA: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), in collaboration with various stakeholders including the Indian Army, Hotelier Club Gulmarg, IISM Gulmarg, Allied Departments, Service Providers, and local students marked ‘World Environment Day’ with a series of impactful activities aimed at preserving the natural beauty of Gulmarg.

The highlight of the celebration was a mega cleanliness drive that commenced at the Main Market of Gulmarg and extended to the Children's Park. Over 300 volunteers, comprising students, service providers, officers/officials of civil, police, Army, and local organizations, participated with enthusiasm, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining Gulmarg's ecological balance.

Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority, Waseem Raja spearheaded the cleanliness drive and emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental preservation. He urged tourists, hoteliers, and service providers to join hands in making Gulmarg completely polythene and plastic-free, emphasizing the collective responsibility we all share in safeguarding the environment.

Continuing the momentum, the celebrations will extend to June 6 with a Cyclothon and the Gulmarg Green Conclave at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM). These events aim to promote eco-friendly practices and raise awareness about environmental issues among participants.

The Gulmarg Green Conclave will feature discourse and presentations on topics such as sustainable tourism, waste management, and conservation strategies, offering valuable insights and solutions to address environmental challenges.

TLSC Charar-I-Sharief celebrates ‘World Environment Day’, conducts Plantation drive

  • World Environmental Day also celebrated at Legal Literacy Clubs of Budgam

BUDGAM: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Charar-I-Sharief celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ and held plantation drive, today at Munsiff Court Complex, Charar-I-Sharief, Legal Literacy Club KhanSahib and Legal Literacy Club Budgam.

The event was held under the directions and guidance of Khalil Ahmad Chowdhary, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam and Fakhur-Un-Nissa, Chairperson, TLSC Charar-I-Sharief.

The plantation drive was kick-started by Fakhur-Un-Nissa, Chairperson, TLSC Charar-I-Sharief by planting saplings of forest plants with the aim to fight against global warming thereby reducing its impact on climate change and ultimately presenting a better environment for future.

During the event, Chairperson, TLSC Charar-I-Sharief said that the aim of this programme is to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices in our communities. She also said that the objective is to address pressing environmental challenges and advocate for positive change, and highlighted all the beneficial aspects of tree plantations.

Adv. Reyaz Ahmad deliberated upon various aspects of the topic. He underlined the significance of planting trees. He also said that it was of utmost importance that nature is preserved and ecological balance is maintained.

Mir Tawseef and Javid Ahmad, lecturers of GBHSS also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of nature and the need to protect the environment. Among others, the programme was attended by Association, Advocates, Panel Lawyers, Staff of Munsiff Court and TLSC Charar-I-Sharief, PLVs and teachers and students of GBHSS, Charar-I-Sharief, etc.

PLVs namely Mehraj din Shah and Ajaz Ahmad Mir at Legal Literacy Club Khan Sahib, Ajaz Ahmad Wani and Mehbooba Bano at Legal Literacy Club Budgam highlighted all the beneficial aspects of tree plantations among the students of the Legal Literacy Clubs. Later, a pledge ceremony was held wherein participants pledged to save the environment.

GDC Marh creates Bird Feeders to mark World Environment Day

JAMMU: Eco-club of Government Degree College Marh, under the aegis of Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, celebrated World Environment Day today under the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”.

The event was guided by the College Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul. Students of Semester 2nd (Raveena Kousar, Khushi Choudhary, Sonia Choudhary, Sweety Kaith) and 4th (Kashish and Navpreet) made handmade bird feeders, water pots on the occasion.

They utilized simple materials such as shells, bottles and jute twines to create eco-friendly bird feeders. After installing bird feeders around the campus, students spent the day watching various birds visit that will provide sustenance to birds during extreme weather. Poster making competition was also held where students made colorful posters under slogan “Our land Our future” showcasing the significance of afforestation and Land Restoration". The programme was coordinated by Anjana Chib (HOD EVS) and Dr. Shakun Sharma.

 In his address, the college Principal educated the students that the theme calls attention to one of the most pressing issues of our time – land degradation driven by factors such as deforestation, unsustainable agriculture, urbanization, and climate change. “All these factors pose a grave threat to ecosystems and livelihoods worldwide. It is a cause of concern and calls for concerted efforts to address the same,” he added and encouraged the students to plant more and more trees during rainy seasons which will not only prevent desertification but also help in reducing the temperature.

While applauding the faculty, he apprised the students that their college has adopted various green practices such as plantations drives, proper segregation and recycling of waste through RUDA, making best out of waste.

Awareness programmes, Plantation & Sanitation drives mark celebration of World Environment Day at Kulgam

  • DC presides over function at Townhall Kulgam

KULGAM: World Environment Day was today celebrated across the district Kulgam with a mega function held at Town Hall Kulgam, which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan. This year the global theme of ‘World Environment Day’, ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’.

On the occasion, the speakers from schools, civil societies and various departments highlighted the historical background of the day and added that the need of the hour is to work collectively to preserve and safeguard the environment from more depletion. Addressing the occasion, the DC called for judicious resource use and collective efforts for environmental preservation.

The ADDC said that life is only possible by keeping the environmental balance intact, and added that preservation of water bodies and natural resources is a must. Programme was attended by ADDC Bashir Ahmad Wani, CEO MC, Kulgam, DPCB-Officer and other officers. Later a plantation drive was organised and plant saplings were planted within the premises of Townhall Kulgam by the DC, ADDC and other officers, besides students also participated in this plantation drive.

Awareness functions, plantation & cleanliness drives mark celebration of World Environment Day at Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: To raise awareness about environment and ecology among the masses, various functions were today held across Ganderbal district on the eve of ‘World Environment Day.

The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and witnessed various activities including rallies, plantation and sanitation drives with the main event held within the premises of Kheer Bhawani temple Tullamulla.

The function was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad whereas functionaries of several departments including Forest and Education marked their presence.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC highlighted the importance of the day and said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about conservation of the environment in the highest interest of mankind. Later, Cleanness/ Sanitation drive was conducted within the premises of Temple and its adjoining areas.

World Environment Day: NSS volunteers of GDC Khansahib conduct Cleanliness Drive

BUDGAM: On the eve of ‘World Environment Day – 2024’ today, the NSS volunteers of Govt. Degree College Khansahib carried out a cleanliness drive on Sukhnag River at Arizal village of Khansahib. A contingent of 36 volunteers was flagged-off by the college in-charge Principal, Prof. G.M. Jan.

About 60 kgs of plastic bottles, wrappers and other non-biodegradable waste were collected from the banks of Sukhnag and disposed-off during the drive. On this occasion, the students pledged to lead an eco-friendly life and promote environmental awareness in their respective communities.

GDC Kulgam celebrates World Environment Day-2024

KULGAM: The World Environment Day-2024 was on Wednesday celebrated by the Department of Environmental Science, Govt. Degree College (GDC) Kulgam in collaboration with NCC/NSS units of the college on the theme ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’. The principal of the college, Prof. Syed Eazaz Hussain Rizvi in his address emphasized the importance of land restoration and drought impacts on humans.

The invited speaker on the occasion, Dr. Khalid Muzamil Gani, Assistant Professor (Environmental Engineering) Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Srinagar in his talk laid emphasis on the technological options for the revival of water cycle and sources.

He detailed the various technological options available for the restoration of water bodies and pollution control with special emphasis on wastewater recycling. The organizing secretary of the program, Dr. Gowhar Hamid Dar highlighted the historical importance of the day and deliberated upon the significance of land restoration. He also spoke about the negative impacts of desertification and droughts.

During the programme, the students also made presentations on the topic and expressed their views on the theme. The student presentations were judged by Prof. Mohd Altaf Sofi and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Shah. The first position was bagged by Zainab Naushad, Second by Muskana Abass and third position by Shabeena Shahi.

YSS Ganderbal commemorates ‘World Environment Day-2024’

GANDERBAL: The YSS Ganderbal marked World Environment Day 2024 with a series of impactful events throughout the district. Various schools organized rallies, with students chanting slogans in support of environmental protection. This initiative aimed to instill a deep commitment to environmental conservation and ecosystem restoration among people.

World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5th, is a day dedicated to raising awareness and promoting action for the preservation of our environment. This year's theme, ‘Restoring Ecosystems,’ underscores the urgent need to rejuvenate our damaged ecosystems, a crucial step towards a sustainable future.

Additionally, Zone Ganderbal of the District hosted an inter-school zonal handball competition at GCOPE Gadoora Ganderbal for boys under 17 years. The event, now in its second day, featured the participation of 46 students. The competition included two semi-final matches and culminated in an exciting final, where Qamaria HSS Saloora Ganderbal emerged victorious over BHSS Ganderbal.

DYSSO Ganderbal, interacted with the student athletes and motivated them with his inspiring words. He highlighted the role of sports in holistic development beyond mere recreation. Senior officials concluded the event by awarding trophies to the finalist teams.

Meanwhile, Zone Hariganiwan organized an inter-school zonal football competition for girls under 17 years at the BHSS Hariganiwan ground, which saw enthusiastic participation from many female students. BHSS Hariganiwan claimed victory over HS Sultania Educational Institute. Both winning and runner-up teams were honored with trophies by senior officials.

In a similar vein, Zone Tullamulla held an inter-school zonal football competition for boys under 19 years at the picturesque Hyderia ground Tullamulla. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from numerous students. In the final match, BHSS Batwina triumphed over BHSS Wakura with a remarkable performance.

The event aimed to promote a sports culture within the community, encouraging extensive student participation in sports for a vibrant, energetic lifestyle free from societal vices.

'World Environment Day' celebrated with great enthusiasm a across Kupwara

KUPWARA: World Environment Day was today celebrated with great enthusiasm by various Government departments, educational institutions and other organizations across Kupwara district, by organizing plantation drives, cleanliness drives, awareness programmes and eco-friendly practices besides other activities.

At DC Office Complex, the Deputy Commisioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan held an interactive session with students. The DC while interacting with students said that on World Environment Day 2024, we come together to renew our commitment to protecting the rich biodiversity and natural resources of our planet.

She said that this year's theme, “Restore, Reimagine, Recreate," reminds us that it is within our power to heal the Earth by rethinking our relationship with nature and taking decisive actions to reverse environmental degradation.

She said that we all stand at a critical juncture where every choice we make has a profound impact on the health of our planet. From reducing plastic waste and conserving water to embracing renewable energy and protecting endangered species, each of us has a role to play in this global mission.

The DC said that our smallest actions can lead to the greatest changes and our collective actions today will shape the world of tomorrow. At Town Hall Handwara, World Environment day function was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Handwara, Aziz Ahmed Rather. 

He urged the students to follow the 'Think Global and Act Local’ principle that emphasizes the importance of considering the broader, global implications of actions while making decisions and taking actions at a local level. 

He said that this approach encourages individuals, communities, and organizations to address global issues such as environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic development through locally relevant initiatives and practices.  ADC later took part in a plantation drive at Chinar Park Handwara.

Similarly, Rural Development department (RDD) celebrated World Environment Day today by organizing plantation drives, community clean-up drives, awareness campaigns and eco-friendly practices  around different Amrit Sarovars, which became  focal points for promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement in sustainable practices.

JKPCC Srinagar organises series of events to commemorate 'World Environment Day'

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) Srinagar on Wednesday under the guidance and directions of Regional Director JKPCC, Kashmir organised multiple events to commemorate 'World Environment Day'.    

On the occasion, a mega rally of Eco Club students, teachers and the employees of JKPCC was taken out from the premises of JKPCC Srinagar to raise awareness on the preservation of environment.                   

As part of the celebration, a debate and painting competition was also conducted in Delhi Public School Srinagar. The students were later awarded with certificates.  During the event, the senior officials of JKPCC Srinagar threw light on the importance of Environmental conservation and the World Environment Day. A pledge taking ceremony was also organised during both the events. 

LCMA, BHSS Shalimar organise multiple events to celebrate ‘World Environment Day’

SRINAGAR: The Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) in collaboration with Boys HSS Shalimar on Wednesday celebrated the ‘World Environment Day’ with the involvement of more than 200 students.

During the event, Manzoor Ahmad Project Officer Watershed, Management Division vehemently delivered a lecture to the students about the conservation of environment and explained to them the theme of this year’s environment day. 

The programme was followed by plantation drive within the premises of Boys Higher Secondary School Shalimar in which the Principal of the institution, faculty Members, officials from LCMA and students of the school participated. 

Some Conifer saplings were distributed to the faculty members and students owing to their zeal and fervor to improve the greenery around their homes.  The students took part in the plantation drive, speech competition, and a rally was also held during which slogans were raised regarding the environmental issues. Vice chairman LCMA, Dr Bashir Ahmad  appreciated the concerned for organising such events.

Speaking on the occasion, the Project Officer said the Department this year celebrated 'Environment Week' in collaboration with the  stakeholders and concerned groups to make it a people’s movement so that the environment is saved not for present times but for coming generations and times. He said by preserving the fragile ecology, we will also preserve these green gifts for our future generations. A pledge taking ceremony was also held during which pledge was taken by one and all present in the event to save our environment.

GDC Ajas celebrates 'World Environment Day'

BANDIPORA: Eco-Club, Government Degree College Ajas in collaboration with NSS Unit today celebrated World Environment Day.  The event focused on the critical issues of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. The college community, including students, faculty, and staff, came together to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

On the occasion, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad delivered lecture on the importance of land restoration and the strategies to combat desertification. He emphasized the need for sustainable land management practices to enhance soil fertility and productivity.  Dr. Rukaya Nabi captivated the audience  with her lecture and also with a  poem written by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Parveen Kousar. 

The poem encapsulated the theme of the day, reflecting on the interconnectedness of humans and nature and the urgent need to protect our environment.  The speakers highlighted pressing environmental issues and the role each individual can play in mitigating these challenges.

Shakir Ahmad and Arjumand Manzoor, both from the 4th semester, contributed to the event by presenting topics related to the theme of the day. Their presentations highlighted the innovative solutions and personal commitments necessary to tackle environmental issues. The celebration concluded with a call to action for everyone present to contribute to environmental conservation efforts.

World Environment Day: HKM College Bandipora conducts Cleanliness drive at Sharda Temple Kaloosa

BANDIPORA: To commemorate World Environment Day, the NSS Unit of HKM GDC Bandipora today organized a significant event aimed at promoting environmental awareness and cleanliness.  During the event, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the Sharda Temple  Kaloosa  Bandipora in which  dedicated contingent  of NSS volunteers actively participated  demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation and community service. 

The volunteers focused on collecting and properly disposing-off plastic bottles, wrappers and other non-biodegradable waste scattered within the vicinity of the temple.

During the event, the participating students made a solemn pledge to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. They committed to promote environmental awareness within their respective communities, aiming to inspire others to join the efforts in preserving and protecting the environment.

The cleanliness drive at Sharda  Temple not only helped in maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of the temple premises but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship.

GDC Hajin celebrates 'World Environmental Day'

BANDIPORA: The Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC Hajin Bandipora today organized a seminar to celebrate World Environment Day.  On the occasion, the principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Zahoor Ahmad in his address appreciated the active role and participation of students and staff in environmental awareness campaigns of the college.

He discussed the inevitable importance of the environment in sustaining life on Earth.  In his address, the principal quoted Noam Chomsky's famous saying that "Nature is neither an infinite sink nor an infinite source" and emphasized the role of students in safeguarding the environment. 

The seminar witnessed distinctive speeches of  Adnan Rashid HoD Environmental Sciences, Dr. Mehraj Hajini, HoD Political Science and some student participants on the theme, 'Land Degradation, Desertification & Drought Resilience'. 

In his speech, HoD Environmental Sciences Adnan Rashid  presented a detailed map of land degradation and desertification across the globe with special reference to India.  Dr. Mehraj Hajini on the other hand highlighted the issues of environmental pollution and possible catholicons to protect it.

The student speakers, Arafat Rasool, Ifshana Bano, Qazi Sharik of BG 4th semester and Danish Manzoor and Bisma Jan of BG 2nd semester deliberated upon environmental degradation and the ways to protect our surroundings for present and future generations. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participating students.
