SRINAGAR: As part of World Forestry Week celebrations, a massive tree plantation programme was kick started at a function held at District Court Complex Baramulla. The function was jointly organized by Jehlum Valley Forest Division Baramulla and District Legal Services Authority Baramulla. The Principal, District and Sessions Judge Baramulla, Raja Shujat Ali was chief guest on the occasion, who deliberated upon the importance of Forest Laws and role of judiciary in Forest Conservation and Development.
Earlier, DFO Jehlum Valley Forest Division briefed about the diverse activities of Forest Department. He said about 89,000 cfts of timber have been provided to the consumers of the division, besides 7612 quintals of firewood was distributed to the Mosques, Gurdwaras, Church and others during the same period. It was further informed that about 2.95 lakh conifers have been raised in Boniyar and Baramulla nurseries, while as 2 lakh broad leaved plants have been raised in Khadinyar nursery under different schemes of the Forest department. Later, a green walk programme was organized in Court Complex to Forest Campus Baramulla. On the occasion, various officers of district administration were present.
