UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review road safety measures in the district. The meeting took place in the Mini Conference Hall DC Office Complex Udhampur.
Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia; ARTO Jugal Sharma; Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY, and district officers from various departments attended the meeting.
A detailed discussion was held on multiple aspects, including the enforcement of traffic rules, identification of black spots, minimizing road accidents, conduct of awareness programs, working of traffic management system, traffic decongestion on busy routes and the installation of signage. Emphasis was laid on close check on overloading, overspeeding, Rash driving and road maintenance. âOverloading is one of the reasons for accidents in the district which needs to be checked by taking stringent measuresâ the DC emphasized.
The DC asked for beautification of Jakhani Chowk and exploring possibilities for construction of foot over bridge at Jakhani and flying over at Tikri Chowk. Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY were directed to ensure regular maintenance of roads to prevent accidents. They were asked to identify black spots and take corrective measures by fixing signboards and installing crash barriers.
Traffic police were instructed to regulate traffic, reduce jams, and manage overloading in the district with the assistance of local police for the convenience of the general public.
The DC called for widespread awareness about safety rules and taking corrective measures to make roads safer for commuters. For strict enforcement of traffic rules, the DC asked MVA and traffic authorities to take stern action against violators and stressed the need to increase penalties for overloading, driving without helmets, and over-speeding.

REASI: An enforcement drive was conducted by the Motor Vehicle Department Team here today on the directions of District Magistrate Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan. The team was led by ARTO Muddasir Iqbal.
During the enforcement operation, the ARTO suspended driving licenses of multiple offenders for a period of three months as they were found violating traffic regulations. Additionally, four RCs were also suspended for similar violations, contributing to enhanced road safety measures in the district.

UDHAMPUR: District Election Officer Udhampur, Saloni Rai today briefed representatives of political parties about Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Rolls 2024 here at a meeting held in the Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, Udhampur.
The DEO informed that the Election Commission of India has instructed the execution of pre-revision activities and the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls with respect to July 1, 2024, as the qualifying date.
She briefed the participants about the house-to-house (H2H) verification through Booth Level Officers (BLOs), rationalization and re-arrangement of polling stations, removal of discrepancies in the electoral roll and Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), and the improvement of image quality by replacing blurred, poor quality, and non-specification images, wherever necessary.
The DEO also mentioned the updating of the control table and the preparation of Formats 1 to 8, along with the integrated draft roll with reference to July 1, 2024, as the qualifying date.
The DEO sought cooperation from all political parties and emphasized the importance of maximum registration of new eligible voters. She requested the representatives of political parties to widely disseminate electoral education among new voters, encouraging them to take an active part in the electoral process by getting enrolled as voters during the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls 2024, thus contributing to the world's largest democracy.
- Orientation programme on New Criminal Laws hosted for District Bar Association Samba
SAMBA: On the directions of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, District Judiciary Samba today organised one day Orientation cum training programme for the advocates of District Bar Association Samba on three New Criminal Laws which are going to be implemented from 1st of July 2024 across the country. The forthcoming Criminal Laws are slated to supplant the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and the Indian Evidence Act. The training programme was held in the Bar room of District Court Complex Samba.
The training programme was organised to equip the participants with a profound understanding and operational knowledge of three critical legislative Acts recently assented to by the President of India.
In his introductory address, Adnan Sayeed, Pr. District and Sessions Judge highlighted the significance of understanding all the three criminal laws by the lawyers. He also gave a brief overview of the changes introduced in the existing Indian Penal Code 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1982 respectively.
The One Day orientation programme was divided into three sessions. In the first Session, Preet Simran K Grover, Chief Judicial Magistrate gave a PowerPoint Presentation on Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary, DLSA Samba deliberated on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS), while Urvashi Addl. Munsiff also gave a Power Point Presentation on Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Himani Parihar, Munsiff Samba.
The event witnessed the participation of President Bar Association Samba, Senior Bar Members as well as young lawyers of Bar Association, Officers from Prosecution Wing, Officers of LADCs, Staff Members of District Judiciary Samba and DLSA Samba.

JAMMU: Chief Engineer (Distribution), JPDCL Jammu has informed that the power supply to Medical, Satwari, Chatha, Toph, Shakti Nagar, Company Bagh and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 28 from 7 am to 10 am.
Similarly, the power supply to District Udhampur and Kishtwar will remain affected on June 28 from 6 am to 10 am. Likewise, the power supply to Chatroo, Machail, Padder, Dool, Puchal, Dacchan and adjoining areas will remain affected on June 29 from 6 am to 10 am.
Meanwhile, Superintending Engineer (Distribution), JPDCL O&M Circle, Kathua has informed that the power supply to Gawal and its adjoining areas will remain affected on June 28 from 5 am to 9 am. Similarly, the power supply to B.B.Town, Birpur Old Complex, Kaluchack and its adjoining areas will remain affected on June 29 from 5 am to 9 am.
