SRINAGAR: The department of Culture in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Jammu and Kashmir Bank today organized a musical evening, at Badam Vaer in Shahr-e-Khaas here, to celebrate the legacy of Shair-e-Kashmir, Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor. The programme was organized under the initiative of “Art in Public Spaces” pioneered by Dr Haseeb Ahmad Drabu, the Minister for Finance, Labour Employment and Culture. The novel initiative is aimed at popularizing the legendary poets and artists of Kashmir through rendering their poetry and art by eminent singers and showcasing indigenous Kashmiri Musical Instruments like Rabab, Santoor, Tumbakhnari and Nout.

The Musical programme started with live performance of Rabab which was followed by presentation of profile of Mehjoor and musical performance by Waheed Jeelani and Raashid Jehangir. The programme concluded with musical ensemble of Kashmiri instrument. It was witnessed by large number of people which included tourists from other states, foreigners and youth in large numbers. The 2nd programme of the series will be held at Iqbal Park next weekend wherein the legend of Abdul Ahad Zargar will be celebrated. Similar programmes would be also organized in other tourist and public spots every weekend.
