JAMMU: A dogri short story collection ‘Nheraa Te Lo’ authored by Sudershan Rattanpuri was released at a function at K L Saigal hall here today. A brief critical review on the book was presented by eminent critic and former HoD, Dogri Department, University of Jammu, Dr Veena Gupta. She discussed the themes and style of short stories of the released book and humanitarian approach of late writer who has four collections of short stories namely “Addhi Batta Di Poori Kahaani”, “Singhasan”, “Panjahen Da Note” and “Ujje”, one poetry book and an anthology of one act plays to his credit.

Chhatrapal, President of Dogri Sanstha, congratulated the family members of late Rattanpuri for bringing out his unpublished works to lime light. He termed Rattanpuri as one of the pioneers of Dogri journalism who published Dogri weekly “Parchol” for decades.

While paying glowing tributes to Rattanpuri for his valuable contribution to the cause of Dogri literature and journalism, Dr Lalit Maogtra, noted writer, intellectual and convener, Sahitya Akademi’s Advisory Board for Dogri, said that Rattanpuri picked up themes for his stories from day to life and enriched Dogri short story by publishing about five dozen stories in his four collections. He is a writer of keen observation and social consciousness, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramakant Dubey, prominent social activist said that literature reflects our culture, traditions and invaluable heritage besides enriching our lives. He eulogized the literary and cultural activities of Dogri Sanstha for the promotion of social and literary consciousness among Dogras. He made a fervent appeal to all the Dogras to give due respect to their mother tongue and encourage its usage in day to day life.

The function was conducted by Dr Nirmal. Among others present were known poets Darshan Darshi, Mohan Singh, President Duggar Pardesh party, Uday Chand besides other leading writers, poets and members of the civil society. Published posthumously by Parchol Prakashan, New Plots Jammu, the released book has eighteen short stories on various social issues.
