Indian Institute of Management Jammu is 5th among all 21 IIMs to get two International Accreditations

JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu stands at a luminous crossroads in its journey—one defined by ambition, perseverance, and a resounding affirmation of its rising stature. In what can only be described as a golden chapter in the Institute’s evolution, IIM Jammu has accomplished a feat few in the nation can claim: the rare distinction of securing not one, but two of the most coveted international accreditations—BGA and EFMD Accreditation for MBA program—within a single remarkable year.

These accolades speak volumes of the Institute’s steadfast commitment to academic distinction, its pioneering spirit of innovation, and its growing resonance in the global landscape of management education. By becoming the only second- and third-generation IIM to be honoured with both accreditations—and one of only five IIMs among the 21 IIMs in the nation to do so—IIM Jammu has carved its name in bold and enduring letters in the chronicles of Indian higher education. It now stands not merely as a symbol of excellence, but as a living example of what inspired leadership, unified purpose, and unwavering determination can accomplish in the pursuit of national pride and global distinction. The journey toward international recognition began on a promising note in January 2025, when the Indian Institute of Management Jammu welcomed a distinguished Peer Review Team (PRT) from the Business Graduates Association (BGA), operating under the esteemed Association of MBAs (AMBA), London. Coordinated in partnership with the AMBA India Office, the visit marked the beginning of a rigorous and all-encompassing institutional review process. Over the course of several days, the PRT engaged in a comprehensive 360-degree evaluation, meeting with a wide spectrum of stakeholders—including the Director, Deans, Programme Chairs, faculty members, alumni, students, and corporate recruiters. What the team encountered was not merely a functional institution, but a vibrant and visionary academic community, radiating integrity, purpose, and a bold commitment to excellence.

The Institute’s narrative was powerfully encapsulated in its presentation titled The Journey of IIM Jammu, which artfully traced its evolution and aspirations. This presentation resonated deeply with the visiting team, clearly reflecting IIM Jammu’s alignment with BGA’s guiding values: lifelong learning, ethical and responsible leadership, and measurable institutional impact. It became immediately evident to the reviewers that IIM Jammu was not just progressing—it was accelerating, defying the typical trajectory of a young institution.

It is noteworthy that BGA’s standard accreditation period is typically three years, with five-year accreditations being awarded only in rare circumstances—and almost exclusively to institutions with decades of legacy and demonstrated long-term impact. However, what unfolded at IIM Jammu was nothing short of extraordinary. The Peer Review Team, deeply impressed by the Institute’s exceptional growth trajectory, robust governance, academic innovation, and societal relevance, found the evidence so compelling that they chose to break with convention. In a decision seldom granted to newer institutions, the team unanimously recommended a full five-year institutional accreditation—a powerful and rare endorsement that signalled the Institute’s emergence as a rising force in global management education.

This prestigious recommendation was far more than a procedural outcome—it was a profound recognition of the Institute’s transformative vision and tireless pursuit of excellence. The decision to extend the full five-year accreditation served as a symbolic validation of IIM Jammu’s position as a dynamic, future-ready institution that is not only meeting international benchmarks but redefining them. Through this honour, IIM Jammu has firmly established itself as a trailblazer among India’s new-generation institutions, earning its rightful place on the global academic map with confidence, credibility, and pride.

BGA/AMBA Accreditation: A Whole-Institution Endorsement

From 13 to 16 January 2025, the PRT held marathon sessions with stakeholders including faculty, students, alumni, corporate recruiters, and leadership. The Institute showcased its transformation through the presentation "The Journey of IIM Jammu," mapped to BGA’s principles: Lifelong Learning, Positive Impact, and Responsible Management.

The PRT praised IIM Jammu for its academic innovation, social impact, and visionary leadership. In a decision rarely extended to young institutions, BGA/AMBA awarded a full five-year institutional accreditation, recognizing the Institute’s extraordinary growth, robust systems, and global aspirations.

Momentum continued to build in March 2025, as IIM Jammu underwent its second major international assessment, this time by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), one of the world’s most respected accreditation bodies. Once again, the Institute showcased its strategic evolution through another compelling rendition of The Journey of IIM Jammu, this time emphasizing EFMD’s pillars of internationalization, connection to practice, and ethics, responsibility, and sustainability.

The Peer Review Team commended the Institute’s strengths in curriculum innovation, student engagement, and ethical education, while also offering thoughtful recommendations—among them, enhancing international student and faculty presence, refining strategic communication, and expanding alumni engagement as the Institute nears its ten-year milestone. In May 2025, during the EFMD Board Meeting in Austria, IIM Jammu received official confirmation that its flagship MBA programme had been awarded a prestigious three-year Programme Accreditation, to be celebrated at EFMD’s annual conference in Munich. This recognition further cements IIM Jammu’s place on the global stage, distinguishing it as an institution that meets the highest international benchmarks in management education.

EFMD Accreditation: Strengthening Global Academic Standards

In March 2025, IIM Jammu welcomed a Peer Review Team from EFMD as part of its program-level accreditation for the flagship MBA. The team evaluated the Institute’s performance against EFMD’s pillars: Internationalization, Connections with Practice, and Ethics, Responsibility & Sustainability (ERS).

The review process involved comprehensive interactions with the Institute’s leadership, faculty, students, alumni, and industry recruiters. The EFMD Peer Review Team acknowledged IIM Jammu’s agile curriculum, strong ethical foundations, and growing global engagement. As a result, on 17th June 2025, the EFMD Board formally awarded a three-year EFMD Programme Accreditation to IIM Jammu’s flagship MBA Programme.

            This sense of purpose and national contribution was echoed by Dr. Milind P. Kamble, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Jammu who described these accreditations as transformative platforms that enable the Institute to engage globally while staying firmly anchored in its commitment to nation-building. “This recognition reflects our unwavering focus on quality, innovation, and transparency. It brings us closer to our vision of becoming a globally respected institution that is proudly Indian in spirit and global in its impact,” he said.

Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu lauded the accreditations as a collective triumph, highlighting the tireless efforts of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and strategic partners. “This is not just a feather in our cap—it’s a reflection of our potential, our purpose, and our promise to shape the future of management education in India and across the world,” he remarked.

            The academic leadership echoed this pride and purpose. Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu emphasized how the accreditations validate the Institute’s commitment to industry-aligned, research-driven learning. “They reinforce our vision to develop responsible leaders equipped to handle global challenges with insight and empathy,” he noted.

            Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu reflected on how the EFMD recognition underscores the Institute’s forward-looking pedagogy and adaptability in a fast-evolving business world. “This milestone elevates IIM Jammu’s profile as a preferred destination for international collaborations, partnerships, and talent exchange,” he added.
