SRINAGAR: (JDU) Party president G.M. Shaheen visited Kakothal, Kreeri and Wagoora in Baramulla district today to review public grievances and inspect ongoing rural infrastructure works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Accompanied by PMGSY Chief Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer, Mr. Shaheen first assessed progress on the Chandilora–Kakothal road. Officials reported that approximately 90 percent of the project is complete, with only the final blacktopping yet to be done.
During the tour, Mr. Shaheen announced approval for a new one‑kilometre link road between Kakothal and Kalantra. “This stretch will vastly improve connectivity for farmers and daily commuters alike,” he said, adding that work is slated to begin within the next fortnight.
Mr. Shaheen also highlighted the recent completion of the long‑pending “Shah Kul” irrigation scheme, stalled for over two decades. He noted that the project will now ensure year‑round water supply to fields in Kalantra, Kakothal, Kawachak, Sheikhpora and Managam villages, boosting crop yields and farmer incomes.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Shaheen singled out community leaders—Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, Haji Bashir Ahmad Mir and Haji Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie—for their instrumental roles in mobilizing local support. He also thanked the PMGSY team and extended gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Chief Secretary for facilitating fast‑track clearances.
“Regardless of our position in government, service to the people remains our unwavering mission,” Mr. Shaheen told reporters. “Our district presidents and workers are active across Jammu & Kashmir to ensure every voice is heard and every project is delivered on time.”
The visit underscores JDU’s continued focus on rural development and infrastructure expansion ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, aiming to address both connectivity and agricultural needs in the region.
