- Urges UP Govt to prioritize safety measures over VIP culture
JAMMU: Adv. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, has expressed profound grief over the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which has claimed the lives of 30 devotees and left 60 others injured. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta called upon the Uttar Pradesh Government to prioritize the safety and security of pilgrims rather than focusing on VIP culture. He stressed that the Maha Kumbh is a sacred event attended by millions from across the country and abroad, and the administration must ensure that the security apparatus serves the devotees first, rather than catering to VIPs at the cost of public safety.
"The Maha Kumbh is one of the most revered religious gatherings, attracting millions of pilgrims. The UP government must take comprehensive measures to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future. Proper coordination between law enforcement agencies, deployment of adequate security personnel, and improved infrastructure should be prioritized to safeguard the lives of devotees," he added.
The senior NC leader urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the stampede and hold those responsible accountable. Stressing the importance of preparedness, he called for better crowd control mechanisms, clear emergency response strategies, and medical aid facilities to handle large gatherings effectively. The Provincial President expressed hope that the UP Government would take all necessary steps to ensure a safe and secure environment for pilgrims in the days ahead.
