SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today interacted with the members of Kashmir Women's Organisation at Raj Bhawan. The Lieutenant Governor extended his felicitations to everyone associated with the Organisation dedicated to Women Empowerment. He said Nari Shakti have continuously demonstrated excellence in every sector contributing to J&K UT's growth and prosperity.
“Today, our daughters are scripting new history. They are emerging as role models and accomplishing new heights of success in diverse fields. They are pillars of our socio-economic progress and driving force behind accelerated development,” the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor said that the Indian Constitution has given equal rights to women without any discrimination.
“In the last few years, we have intensified the efforts through dedicated programmes and initiatives for women empowerment. Our aim is to ensure that our daughters have greater opportunities in key sectors so that they can contribute in the journey of Viksit Bharat and Aatm-Nirbhar Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor conveyed his best wishes to all the members of Kashmir Women's Organisation for their future endeavours. Earlier, the members of the delegation briefed the Lieutenant Governor on several initiatives of their organisation aimed at women empowerment and encouraging their political participation and community engagement.
JAMMU: The Law School, University of Jammu, organized an immersive experiential learning visit for its students to the Model Police Station and Women Police Station in Gandhinagar, Jammu, deepening their understanding of law enforcement and criminal justice systems. The visit, organized for 6th-semester law students and PG Diploma (Human Rights & Duties Education) scholars, offered firsthand exposure to policing operations, aligning with the institution’s commitment to practical legal education.
During the visit, students toured the facilities and engaged with officers to learn about arrest protocols, investigative techniques, evidence handling, and community policing strategies. SHO Arun Sharma (Model Police Station) and SHO Aarti Thakur (Women Police Cell), along with investigation officers, provided insights into the application of criminal law, civil rights safeguards, and the evolving role of police in society.
A key highlight was SP South Ajay Sharma’s session on technology-driven policing, including the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), procedural justice, and strategies to strengthen police-community relations. He emphasized the visit’s significance, stating, “Building bridges between law enforcement and future legal professionals is vital. These students will soon shape policies, defend rights, and collaborate with police in courts—understanding ground realities fosters better synergy and reform.”
Professor Seema Rohmetra, Director of The Law School, underscored the pedagogical value of the initiative: “Experiential learning is a cornerstone of legal education. By stepping out of classrooms and into spaces where law is enforced, students gain nuanced perspectives beyond textbooks. Such collaborations with the police empower them to advocate, litigate, and engage with the justice system more effectively.”
The visit was coordinated by faculty members under the supervision of Dr. Monica Narang and assisted by Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Dr. Upasana Sharma, Dr. Rameh Kumar, and Dr. Nitan Sharma, reinforcing the institution’s emphasis on interdisciplinary, real-world learning.
JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu hosted the Valedictory Ceremony of the Capacity Building Program (Batch-3) for officials of the Finance, Planning & Monitoring Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir. The program was organized under the aegis of the Centre for Innovation and Transformation in Governance (CITaG) and concluded on May 28, 2025, at the state-of-the-art Vivekananda Classroom, Jagti Campus of IIM Jammu. Thevaledictory ceremony was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu.
Present on the occasion were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research; Prof. Sanjay Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C); Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-Chairperson, EE&C; Prof. Pranab Ranjan Das, Chairperson, Centre for Small Business Development (SBDU); Prof. Ravij Seth, and Dr. Pradeep K. Tarei, Dr. Sourav Mondal, Dr. Vivek Mishra, and Dr. Prakrit Silal, who served as Program Directors for the initiative.
In his address, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu commended the active participation of the officials and reaffirmed IIM Jammu’s commitment to building a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric governance system. He emphasized the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for a Viksit Bharat by 2047, highlighting the need for clearly defined goals and timelines in governance reform. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills gained through the program would enhance administrative capacity in the Union Territory and position CITaG as a national model for good governance.
Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu in his valedictory address, praised the Government of Jammu & Kashmir for its proactive engagement with IIM Jammu and urged participants to apply their learnings in real-world administrative settings. He noted that the initiative sets a precedent for capacity-building efforts across the country.
Prof. Sanjay Pathak,Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C) highlighted the importance of interdepartmental collaboration and peer learning, describing the program as a meaningful step toward more cohesive governance practices.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Ravij Seth, Program Director, Capacity Building Program for Finance and Planning Officials of Govt. of J & K under CITaG who underscored the significance of innovation and upskilling in improving public service delivery. A detailed program report was presented by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Tarei, Program Director, Capacity Building Program for Finance and Planning Officials of Govt. of J & K under CITaG after which participants shared their reflections, emphasizing the program’s practical relevance and transformational impact.
Certificates were distributed to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the program. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Malaya Ranjan Mohapatra, who expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their collaboration and commitment. The valedictory ceremony culminated with the National Anthem.
The Centre for Innovation and Transformation in Governance (CITaG) at IIM Jammu aims to serve as a catalyst for administrative reform and public sector excellence. Through its focus on capacity building, policy innovation, and public-private collaboration, CITaG aspires to elevate Jammu & Kashmir to the ranks of the best-performing states and union territories in India.This training program was coordinated by IIM Jammu’s Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C).
REASI: District Development Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik today chaired a meeting at Aghar Jitto- Block Katra to review and finalize preparations for the 3-Day Aghar Jitto Mela, scheduled to be held from June 10 to June 12, 2025. The DDC also convened a public grievances redressal camp and listened to people’s issues and resolved many issues of public importance on the spot.
The meeting focused on critical aspects such as sanitation, drinking water, electricity, medical aid, security, traffic management, and accommodation for pilgrims. DDC Reasi emphasized inter-departmental coordination and directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of preparatory tasks.SDM Katra Piyush Dhotra has been designated as the Mela Officer.
The DDC instructed Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Social welfare, PDD PM Surya to put up their stalls to provide different services and disseminate information about respective schemes to provide on spot benefits to the visiting public. The Health Department was asked to deploy sufficient medical teams along with ambulances for emergency response, while the Police Department was tasked to ensure foolproof security and smooth traffic flow during the festivities.
The EO MC Katra was asked to take measures for maintaining proper sanitation and install mobile toilets. The Fire and Emergency Services Department was asked to station fire tenders at the venue. Additionally, the XENs of PHE and PDD were directed to ensure adequate water and power supply throughout the mela.
She also gave instructions to the Legal Metrology Department and Food Safety Department to conduct market inspections to keep tab on rates, quality and hygiene of food items being sold during the Mela. The Tourism department was asked to start publicity campaign to attract maximum footfall during the Mela.
The DDC appealed to local residents and volunteers to extend their support to the administration in maintaining cleanliness, discipline, and ensuring the successful conduct of the Mela. ADC Rakesh Kumar, CPO Narinder Kumar, CEO, XEN PDD, DIO (info) and representatives of local religious organizations attended the meeting.
Earlier, chairing the grievance redressal camp in the area, the DDC took stock of people’s issues and had a detailed interaction with the local residents regarding their issues and grievances in presence of District Development Council member Katra, former Sarpanches and Panches . The initiative was widely appreciated by the community, who commended the district administration for reaching out and addressing issues at the grassroots level.
The residents projected several demands seeking augmentation of water supply, irrigation facility, renovation and expansion of road connectivity, improvement of Power Supply Scenario PDD, adequate staff in schools and effective implementation of Rural Development. The DC issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned district officers to take necessary action. She emphasized the importance of timely resolution and asked each department to submit an Action Taken Report to her office for monitoring and follow-up.
The DC gave Specific instructions to the XEN PDD to ensure proper installation of electric poles and wiring for the safety and benefit of the residents. The DC also asked for a thorough gap assessment to address the problem of low voltage in the area. The CEO was asked to take immediate steps to ensure adequate teaching staff availability in schools and emphasized close monitoring. She also instructed the officer to pursue the introduction of additional academic streams, such as commerce, as per public demand.
Addressing water-related concerns, the XEN PHE was instructed to ensure uninterrupted water supply during the summer season. The officer was also directed to fast-track pending irrigation projects by coordinating with contractors to ensure timely delivery, thereby benefiting the farming community.
The DC reassured the public that all grievances raised during the camp would be addressed promptly and efficiently. She reiterated her commitment to transparent governance and instructed all departments to ensure swift action and timely submission of reports.
