JAMMU: “Pensioners and elder citizens are essential stakeholders in making a developed India by the year 2047”, said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today. He said the government is simplifying procedures related to disbursal of pensions in order to provide to beneficiaries ease of living, and consign their energies to the task of nation building. Dr Singh was speaking at the 54th Pre-Retirement Counselling Workshop organised by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions at Convention Centre, Jammu.
“The Government is utilising the latest and best available technology to minimise delays and improve the administrative procedures concerning pension”, the Minister said. He stated that the government has resolved to utilise the expertise of retiring employees and make them part of a ‘Team India’ which has been tasked with realising the goal of a developed India.
The Union Minister said that under the patronage of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, the government has ushered in revolutionary administrative reforms and done away with colonial, archaic and obsolete rules and laws. “All this has been done to ensure citizen-centre governance, with increased transparency, accountability and ease of living”, he pointed out. Dr Singh informed that divorced daughters and widows as well as spouses of missing or disappeared government servants, particularly in J&K, are now entitled to receive pension, which was not the case in the past.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that facial recognition technology is now being used to issue Digital Life Certificates (DLC) to pensioners to prevent fraud, bring in ease and comfort as well as save time and energy of the pensioners. “The government hit upon this best form of technology to improve upon the existing biometric based system”, he underlined. Similarly, the government has introduced human intervention in Artificial Intelligence. This unique and out-of-the-box initiative is aimed at gathering feedback from complainants through the setting up of a Human Desk’ with a human touch, he highlighted.
The Union Minister expressed delight at the success of CPGRAMS which is an online platform available to the citizens round-the-clock to lodge their grievances to the public authorities on any subject related to service delivery. “This success story is being emulated by Bangladesh, the Maldives and South Africa”, he informed.
The Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare has been conducting Pre- Retirement Counselling workshops, throughout the country, as part of Good Governance, to facilitate officials who are about to retire, in the superannuation process. The Workshop, being held for the benefit of retiring employees of the Government of India, is a revolutionary step in the direction of ‘Ease of Living’ for the pensioners. In the workshop, soon to be retiring employees, will be provided relevant information related to the retirement benefits and pension sanction process.
In order to facilitate the smooth transition for the retiring employees, various sessions on BHAVISHYA Portal, Integrated Pensioners Portal, Retirement Benefits, Family Pension, CGHS, Income Tax Rules, ANUBHAV, Digital Life Certificate, Investment modes and opportunities, etc. will be conducted. All these sessions have been curated to make the retirees aware of the process to be followed and forms to be filled pre-retirement and to provide information about the benefits available to them post-retirement.
A detailed session on the various Investment modes, their benefits & investment planning will also be organised to enable the retirees to plan investment of their retirement funds well in time. There will also be a detailed session on the CGHS system, CGHS portal, facilities provided as well as procedures to be followed to avail CGHS benefits.
It is expected that about 250 retirees, due to retire in the next 9 months, will be benefited hugely from this Pre-Retirement Counselling (PRC) Workshop. The Department will continue to hold such workshops, as part of Good Governance to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition for Central Government retirees. The department is taking all efforts to keep them updated of the Government initiatives being taken so that they can avail all the benefits, post retirement.
SRINAGAR: The Department of Administrative Reforms, Inspections and Trainings conducted an administrative inspection of the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs
The inspection was led by a team of senior officials headed by Secretary Technical Administrative Reforms, Inspections and Trainings, Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar
The team had detailed deliberations with the Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Abdul Rashid War and other officers regarding working of the department. He also inspected various sections, records as per devised mechanism and inspected the Godowns
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs is responsible for distributing essential commodities such as Rice, Wheat, Sugar under the Public Distribution System
The inspection aimed to evaluate the operational status and administrative efficiency of the department, ensuring it functions optimally and delivers its services effectively to the public. These administrative inspections being conducted by the ARI and Trainings Department are crucial for assessing the operational efficiency of all government departments. These also encourage adherence to standards laid out in the model proforma devised by the ARI department.
"These inspections ensure effective resource utilization, identify areas for improvement, and promote best practices and innovative solutions. Regular inspections build public trust by demonstrating the government's commitment to high standards in operations and services. They also help evaluate the implementation of policies and programs, ensuring alignment with government objectives and desired outcomes," maintained Dr. Kabir Dar.
Till date, the ARI and Trainings Department has conducted administrative inspections of twenty five departments across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
SRINAGAR: Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has intensified its drive against non-payment of electricity bills and remotely disconnected thousands of smart-metered consumers
Similarly, in flat-rated areas, those consumers who haven’t paid their pending dues for months together are being physically disconnected, till they clear their bills with KPDCL
In a press statement issued here today, a KPDCL spokesperson stated that fervent appeals have been made urging consumers to pay their bills on time. He further stated that KPDCL is a Service Provider that needs timely clearance of bills by all categories of consumers for electricity supplied to remain economically viable
While 1,134 smart-metered consumers were disconnected in Electric Division Chanapora on Thursday, electricity supply of 440 consumers in ESD Baramulla I, 240 in ESD Baramulla II and 228 in ESD Qazigund were also snapped.
Large number of consumers are being remotely disconnected across other Subdivisions of Habba Kadal, Watalkadal, Hawal, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Budgam, Chadoora, Zainakote, Zakura, Nishat and Dalgate for not paying bills for over three months,” he added
Seeking cooperation from all consumers in clearing pending dues, the spokesman said that KPDCL will further accelerate disconnection drives against defaulter consumers who are reluctant to pay their electricity bills on time
Urging the consumers with huge opening balance to avail the benefits of Government’s Power Amnesty Scheme, the spokesman advised them to approach the concerned Electric Subdivision for paying principal amount in full or instalments, enabling them to claim waiver on late payment surcharge. “To facilitate the consumers, KPDCL is organising Amnesty Camps on daily basis across all Electric Divisions and so far, over 1 lakh domestic consumers have availed the benefits of the scheme,” he added.
SRINAGAR: In a significant operation, the Indian Army successfully eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control in Keran Sector of Kashmir.
On 17 July, a credible input was received from JKP, further corroborated by intelligence agencies, regarding a group of foreign terrorists likely to infiltrate through Keran Sector.
On 18 July at approx 1230h, alert troops observed movement of two terrorists through thick foliage, on own side of LoC. The infiltrating terrorists were challenged, following which they opened fire leading to an intense fire fight. Two hard core foreign terrorists were killed along with recovery of weapons , war like stores and a Pakistani identity card.
This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of the close synergy between Indian Army, BSF & JKP. This was the third such successful anti infiltration operation on the Line of Control over the last few weeks and underscores the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to maintain the sanctity of the Line of Control and the robust counter infiltration posture towards maintaining peace in Kashmir Valley.
SRINAGAR: J&K fencers representing India have made the Nation proud by securing 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship in New Zealand.
Harshit Kohli won a silver medal in the Sabre team event; Shreya Gupta earned a bronze medal in the Sabre individual event; Chhavi Sharma took home a bronze medal in the Sabre team event while Sufyan Waheed Sohil won a bronze medal in the Epee team event.
It is noteworthy that Harshit Kohli and Chhavi Sharma are the trainees at the JKSC’s Khelo India State Centre of Excellence for Fencing, while Shreya Gupta and Sufyan Waheed are being trained at the National Centre of Excellence in Gujarat and Patiala, respectively.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, congratulated all the medalists and praised their exceptional performance at the prestigious Commonwealth Fencing Championship. “It is heartening to see our youth competing on international stages and proving to be the best. The diligent efforts of the LG administration are evident as athletes from these centers consistently win medals at both national and international levels,” he added.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, also complemented the athletes, calling it a proud moment for the entire J&K. She emphasized that the primary aim of these high-performance centers is to train athletes for international competitions, and the Center of Excellence for Fencing is continuously yielding results. “In the last decade, J&K fencing athletes have won a total of 11 medals at international competitions (3 golds, 1 silver, and 7 bronze medals), and I am hopeful this number will continue to grow,” she added.
