AWANTIPORA: As a part of distinguished lecture series- 2024, Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society (MCSS), Islamic University of Science and Technology, (IUST) hosted another lecture . The session was conducted by Prof. Gautam Basu, eminent biophysicist from Bose Institute, Kolkata.
Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (HVC), IUST commended the organizers for initiating the lecture series underscoring that it fosters a collaborative research and learning environment. He stressed the importance of building an ecosystem of learning and entrepreneurship in the university and highlighted the initiatives being pursued to nurture entrepreneurship and experiential learning.
He emphasized that for IUST to be competitive and an enabler of collaboration, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research approaches to teaching, learning, and research are a necessity. Prof. Javed Hussain Mir, Professor of Practice, MCSS welcomed HVC, the speaker, and the audience.
Prof. Gautam Basu, Biophysicist, and former Professor and chairman of the Department of Biophysics at Bose Institute, Kolkata, fascinated and engaged the audience with his talk titled “Friends and Foes of Molecules”. He explained the processes and guiding forces that exert and trigger molecule interactions that underpin biological activity. Coupled with real-life experiences and examples, he emphasized that the process is the bedrock of scientific discoveries and innovations. The program concluded with an interaction with the faculty and students about the importance of robust research approaches and practices.
SRINAGAR: In connection with 10th Muharram processions, District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat Tuesday undertook visit to Gulshan Bagh Hawal area of Srinagar District.
The District Magistrate accompanied Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Ahmad Kataria and other senior Officers of Police and Civil Administration took stock of the arrangements put in place by the Administration to facilitate the mourners and ensure smooth & hassle free conduct of the 10th Muharram processions.
During the visit, the DC also met the representatives of the Shia community and discussed threadbare the arrangements and facilities made available for the mourners and seamless conduct of the Muharram processions.
Joint Commissioner, SMC, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineer R&B, PHE, PDD & UEED, Chief Sanitation Officer and Officers of other line Departments accompanied the DC during the visit.
JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha laid wreath and paid homage to Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra and Sepoy Ajay, who have made supreme sacrifice during anti-terror operation in Doda.
“I salute the brave warriors who displayed exemplary courage and made supreme sacrifice for the nation. The nation will never forget the sacrifice made by the gallant heroes. The entire nation stands firmly with the families of martyrs in this hour of grief,” the Lt Governor said.
AWANTIPORA: Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo has been granted a 2-year extension in his term as Vice Chancellor by the Govt of J&K. Prof Romshoo was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in 2021 as the fourth Vice Chancellor and the order issued by Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on July 8, states that the extension shall be effective from the August 15, 2024 when his first term completes.
The University under the leadership of Professor Romshoo has achieved remarkable milestones particularly with regard to the Implementation of NEP 2020, fostering a research-oriented and student-centric educational environment, promoting interdisciplinary research, encouraging entrepreneurship and a start-up culture, strengthening industry-academia collaborations besides prioritizing upgradation of the university's infrastructure
Professor Romshoo, having served as Dean of Research at the University is an eminent academic and distinguished researcher, with an illustrious career spanning over 35 years. His extensive research in the field of Earth Sciences, particularly focusing on climate change, water resources, and glaciology, has earned him national and international recognition. Prof Romshoo also espouses social and environmental causes engaging actively in community outreach programs particularly related to climate change impacts, disaster management, and sustainable development in the Kashmir region.
IUST community congratulated Prof Romshoo, and expressed confidence that the university will further its mission of providing quality education, advancing research, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region under his leadership.
SRINAGAR: Continuing to prioritize the welfare of J&K Police personnel, the Director General of Police J&K Shri R.R. Swain has sanctioned over Rs 2.12 crore welfare loans/ relief in favour of 134 police personnel to address their immediate financial needs. The amount has been sanctioned out of Central Police welfare Fund vide PHQ’s order No.1853 of 2024.
Out of this allocation, welfare loans of Rs 1 lakh each have been sanctioned for 25 police personnel, while Rs 1.50 lakh each has been granted in favour of 39 police personnel to cover expenses related to their own or their children's marriages. Welfare loan of Rupees 1.5 crore has been sanctioned in favour of 53 police personnel to meet the expenses of self-treatment or for the treatment of their dependents
Four police personnel have received welfare loans of Rs 1.5 lakh each to support the higher or professional education of their children. Besides, welfare relief of rupees 12.70 lakh in favour of 37 Police personnel has also been sanctioned. It is important to note that while the welfare loans are refundable and recovered in monthly instalments from the salaries of the personnel, the financial assistance provided is non-refundable.
Furthermore, the Police Headquarters extends welfare schemes to all ranks of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, including the families of martyr police personnel and SPOs. Meritorious scholarships are also provided to outstanding children of serving, retired, or martyr police personnel and SPOs, fostering a spirit of competition and excellence among them.
