SRINAGAR: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Srinagar Smart City Ltd (SSCL), Dr. Owais Ahmed today conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing projects being carried out as part of the Smart City Mission. The focus of the inspection was on the upgradation and redevelopment of Nishat Bagh Precinct along with associated works, as well as the construction of Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park, which includes landscaping, drainage, and illumination works throughout Srinagar city.
The CEO closely monitored the progress of the projects. He emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of work on both the Nishat Precinct and Balidan Stambh projects. Directives were issued to expedite the completion of the Nishat Precinct within the shortest possible timeframe. Additionally, while visiting the Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park, the CEO urged for an increase in the work speed and emphasized the completion of all remaining tasks, including landscaping, without any delays.
The SSCL team assured the CEO that the project works are being executed with a strong focus on ensuring high quality standards and timely completion. The dedicated efforts of the team are geared towards the successful execution of these transformative projects that will contribute to the beautification and enhancement of Srinagar city.
The CEO SSCL was accompanied by the officials including the Addl. CEO and GM of Planning and Urban Designing, Executive Engineers, and other officials from the Engineering and Planning departments.
JAMMU: Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday filed the first chargesheet against 03 hardcore criminals who were involved in the gruesome murder of PSI Deepak Sharma of J&K Police at GMC Kathua, an official said.
PSI Deepak Sharma, who was posted at Police Station Ramnagar Samba, was part of a trap team which was deployed at GMC Kathua on 2nd April 2024, attained martyrdom fighting the criminals involved in Akshay Murder case of police station Ramnagar. While the main accused Vasudev alias Shunnu was killed in the same encounter but his 05 associates succeeded in fleeing from the spot. The initial investigation was conducted by Police Station Kathua for about one month and thereafter the case was transferred by PHQ J&K to SCW Crime Branch Jammu.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by Special DGP Crime Sh. Deepak Kumar, IPS under the chairmanship of Sandeep Mehta, SSP, SCW CB Jammu to probe this case. After strenuous and hectic efforts the team succeeded in arresting 03 hardcore criminals from Punjab namely Himanshu Bassi of Nawashaher, Teja of SBS Nagar and Jasvir Singh @ Baba of SBS Nagar Punjab.
The team remained in close contact with their Punjab Police counterparts and with the leads provided by SCW Jammu Punjab police could track another dreaded accused in this case from Jallandhar namely Rohit Kumar @Makhan R/O RS Pura Jammu who was evading arrest in half a dozen cases. His custody will be taken shortly by SCW Jammu from Punjab Police for further questioning.
The preliminary chargesheet in the instant case was filed today in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) , Kathua against the 03 accused persons as the investigation has been completed in respect of these 03 arrested accused persons and the offences against the accused were proved. These three accused are presently in judicial lock up, a spokesperson of the SCW, Jammu said. He said, since 03 more accused persons are required in the case, further investigation shall continue till all the culprits are arrested in the case.
SRINAGAR: In a poignant tribute to the valour and sacrifice of heroes who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War, Indian Army has embarked a pan India D-5 Motorcycle Expedition to commemorate 25th Anniversary of Indian victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war of 1999. The expedition reached BB Cantonment, Srinagar on 06 Jul 2024 and was today flagged off for onward journey.
The pan India expedition has covered 10,000 km on five different routes commencing from Dhanushkodi, Dwarka, Dinjan, Delhi and converging at Drass. The rally aims to pay homage to Indian army braves, who brought victory during the Kargil war 25 years ago. Riding with a sense of purpose, the motorcycle rally will move through challenging terrain, echoing the sprit and determination displayed by Indian army in the battlefield.
The expedition is organised by the Artillery Directorate. Regiment of Artillery played a pivotal role during the Kargil war by providing accurate and effective fire power. The expedition comprising of five officers, four JCOs & seventeen soldiers including women riders from Corps of Military Police were flagged off from National War Memorial, New Delhi on 26th Jun for the final phase of the expedition moving on Northern route A – via Delhi- Srinagar and culminating at Kargil War Memorial, Drass. D-5 motorcycle expedition reached Srinagar on 06th July and was flagged off from Srinagar by Maj Gen PBS Lamba, GOC 31 Sub Area on 8th July 2024, after paying tributes to fallen Braveheart’s at Chinar war memorial.
Before reaching Srinagar D-5 expedition had an interaction with the young students of Army Goodwill school, Wazur on 6th July 2024, with the aim to bring awareness to the young minds about the supreme sacrifice made by bravehearts of Indian Army during the Kargil war.
JAMMU: Mission Shakti Sankalp: Hub for Empowerment of Women Jammu Social Welfare Department organized an awareness session on women -centric provisions in Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) here today at BTC Centre Khandwal, Jammu. The main focus of the awareness session was to create awareness amongst females on the women centric provisions in Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
Such events are being held to enable women to learn new laws for safety and protection and stay informed with emerging new law provisions and procedure like BNS (Bhartiya Nyay sanhita), BNSS (BHARATIYA Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita) and BSA (Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam).
The Resource Person Advocate Amit Khajuria (High Court) explained to the participants about new criminal laws and the replaced form of Indian penal code and the importance of fundamental rights and duties for girls. He also explained the POCSO Act and POSH Act. The Officials of Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW, BPM, NRLM Umeed, SHG members were present.
SRINAGAR: Secretary Rural Development Department (RDD) and Panchayati Raj, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, on Monday inaugurated a one day UT level workshop on “Panchayat Development Plan and MGNREGA convergence” in Srinagar.
The workshop was attended by Director Social Welfare Kashmir, Mohammad Akbar Wani, Director General Finance, Sajad Hussain Ganai, Director, RDD Kashmir, Shabir Hussain, Director Panchayati Raj, Sham Lal, Director Horticulture Kashmir, Zahoor Ahmad, Mission Director JJM, Dr. G. N. Itoo, Additional Secretary Waseem Raja, Deputy Secretary, Sheetal Pandita, HoDs of stakeholder departments and other key officials.
Dr Shahid highlighted the significance of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and underscored the role of multiple departments in achieving a holistic development approach.
The Secretary expressed satisfaction with the collective effort towards a convergent development plan and acknowledged the challenging journey ahead. He emphasized the importance of efficient resource pooling, leveraging technical expertise from departments such as Agriculture, Education, and Forestry, and maximizing the impact for public good. Dr Shahid underscored the need for innovation and support for field-level initiatives, aligning with national goals of holistic development and sustainability.
Director RDD Kashmir highlighted the significance of the workshop, stressing that preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDTs) is more than just an administrative task. He described it as a cornerstone for economic progress and social equity in rural areas. He urged upon line departments to participate actively in the GPDP process, emphasizing that collaboration and synergy among stakeholders are essential for success.
Director Panchayati Raj, Sham Lal, emphasised the importance of streamlining and enhancing the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) process. He outlined several key strategies aimed at improving coordination, efficiency and effectiveness in rural development planning. He underlined the importance of streamlining data collection and management. He advocated for actively engaging line departments in gathering and updating accurate data on the Panchayat Development Index (PDI) portal.
A number of technical sessions were conducted in the day long workshop. During the workshop, DG Finance, Sajad Hussain Ganai, discussed the integration of UT-funded schemes with GPDP. Waseem Raja, Additional Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, focused on the convergent plan under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA.
Dr. Shafia Wani, a faculty member at IMPARD, J&K, addressed the challenges and strategies involved in GPDP preparation, emphasizing the expectations from line departments to facilitate the formation of an Integrated GPDP. Shibabrata Kar, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj expert delivered a presentation on the thematic area-wise preparation of GPDP. The workshop was also attended by the SPRC/DPRC team and other officials of the department.
