SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha released the book titled "The Swinging 70s: The Stars, Style and Substance in Hindi Cinema" edited by Ms Nirupama Kotru and Sh Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri, in Srinagar, today. The Lt Governor, in his address, congratulated the editors- Ms Nirupama Kotru and Sh Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri- and publisher, Om Books for bringing out the excellent book.
“Cinema is not just about entertainment and business. It is a powerful tool for social change. Through path-breaking commercial films and famous works of parallel cinema, our filmmakers have tried to strike a balance between entertainment and social responsibility. It reflects cultural ethos and have always played an important role in nation-building,” the Lt Governor said.
He said the book will act as a gateway for the readers to revisit the 70s era of Hindi Cinema. Speaking on the special bond Jammu Kashmir shares with the majestic world of cinema, the Lt Governor said the films and theatre have always played a key role in socio-economic transformation.
He also highlighted the efforts of the UT Administration to revive the film ecosystem in J&K. “The filmmakers are returning to the valley. The rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, world class facilities and augmented film-related infrastructure have positioned Jammu Kashmir as the most favourite film shooting destination,” the Lt Governor said.
He said that J&K Film Policy has created a vibrant film ecosystem in the UT and administrative assistance to ease film making in Jammu Kashmir by setting up Single Window Cell to grant permission for shooting films, preferably within 2 to 4 weeks.
The revival of film shooting and return of cinema halls have created entrepreneurial opportunities for the talented youth of Jammu Kashmir. We are hopeful of attracting investment in Jammu Kashmir through the film industry to generate greater job creation and it will also play a major role in promoting tourism, he added.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor called upon the people to support the government in its efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous Jammu Kashmir. “The Swinging 70s” brings together a collection of essays that celebrate the myriad dimensions of the era of 70’s– the fashion, the music, the different genres of films, the iconic stars and the unheard stories of behind the scenes.
Sh Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Sh RR Swain DGP; Sh Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department; Sh Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Culture Department; senior officials, editors and publishers of the Book, eminent literary personalities, and a large gathering of Art and film lovers were present on the occasion.
RAMBAN: Mushtaq Ahmed Malik, a resident of Panchayat Danmasta, is beaming with pride as he showcases his newly constructed pucca house, built under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme. This sturdy abode is a testament to the government's commitment to providing affordable housing and employment opportunities to rural India.
Mushtaq's family, including his wife and two children, previously lived in a makeshift hut, vulnerable to harsh weather conditions. The fear of collapse was always looming, and the family's safety was a constant concern. However, their fortunes changed when Mushtaq's application for a PMAY-G house was approved.
With the financial assistance from the government, Mushtaq was able to construct a robust, pucca house, complete with all basic amenities. The house has become a symbol of hope and a better life for the family.
"I am deeply grateful to the government for providing us with a solid roof over our heads," Mushtaq said, his eyes shining with gratitude. "Our new home is a dream come true, and we feel safe and secure. The additional 90-day job under MGNREGA has also helped me support my family during these challenging times."
Mushtaq's story highlights the dual benefits of PMAY-G, which not only provides affordable housing but also generates employment opportunities through the MGNREGA scheme. The job card has enabled Mushtaq to work on various projects, earning a steady income and supporting his family's well-being.
SRINAGAR: A team of Ex-Serviceman (ESM) comprising of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, other ranks and their families from all three services of Armed Forces visited Badami Bagh Cantonment on 06 Jul 2024 as part of Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebrations.
The team comprising of 50 personnel from all over India, headed by Major General Nischaya Raut (Retd) came back from Kargil after paying homage to fallen comrades of Kargil War. In BB Cantt, ESM and their families paid homage to the fallen comrades who have made supreme sacrifice in service of the motherland at Chinar War Memorial and visited the well known museum Ibadat-e-Shahadat which depicts the entire history, heritage & culture of Jammu & Kashmir.
The team also interacted with ESM & Veer Naris of Kashmir Valley & GOC 31 Sub Area. The team leader, Major General Nischaya Raut (Retd) discussed various aspects pertaining to current dynamics of J&K and welfare of ESM in the Valley.
The team of ESM visiting BB Cantt & Kargil is an annual event as part of Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebrations. This visit infused spirit & camaraderie among troops serving in BB Cantt and their gesture spoke volumes of their patriotism.
SRINAGAR:- In order to ensure smooth observance of Muharram and facilitate the mourner's, the District Administration Srinagar has made elaborate arrangements across the District.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner(DC)Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat along with other senior Officers of the District Administration has conducted several visits to different Imambaras including Hasanabad, Shams ud din Iraqi, Zadibal and other areas in Srinagar District.
During the visits، the Deputy Commissioner held interaction sessions with the prominent Shia leaders and religious scholars to discuss the arrangements required regarding holy month of Muharram ul Harram.
The DC has passed directions to the all line Departments for ensuring all required arrangements to facilitate the mourner's. In addition, several meetings were held in the DC Office Complex with concerned Officers and other stakeholders. Pertinent to mention that as of now, various immediate interventions have been taken by the Srinagar Administration
During the current financial year 2024-25, around 11 macadamized works have been approved at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.21 Crore against which 10 works have been executed. For better drinking water supply around 23 works are being/have been taken up for execution at an estimated cost of Rs. 34.00 lacs in different Shia dominating area of district Srinagar.
With regard to power supply, the existing curtailment schedule of 4.5 hours to 6 hours has been reduced to 3 hours only. Moreover, no curtailment is being witnessed during sunset to sunrise. Besides, during the main holy days of Muharram, uninterrupted power supply shall be provided.
With regard to sanitation, all the necessary steps viz full grass cutting/fumigation/desilting of surface drains/have been started and other men and machinery round the clock are working tirelessly to provide better sanitation facility to the mourners during the Muharram.
Similarly, directions have already been passed to the health Department to ensure Health facilities viz adequate availability of medicines, ambulances and other necessary arrangements be made during the month. In addition to above, around Rs 507.32 lakh have been taken up for execution for 71 works in Shia dominated areas.
JAMMU: The Director General of Police, J&K, Shri R.R Swain today visited Doda District to reward the bravery of the police personnel and SPOs who were part of the successful operation in Gandoh area of Doda district in which three terrorists were eliminated. He interacted with the team of brave personnel and their family members at DPL Doda.
Accompanied by ADGP Law and Order, Shri Vijay Kumar and ADGP Jammu Zone Shri Anand Jain, the DGP was received by DIG Doda Kishtwar Ramban Range Shri Shridhar Patil, SSP Doda Shri Javaid Iqbal Mir and other officers.
The DGP alongwith other officers distributed appointment orders to seven courageous SPOs who played a key role in the recent operation in which three terrorists were eliminated.
Highly appreciating the act of bravery of all the Police personnel and security forces the DGP said that such events are organised to recognise the contribution of brave personnel towards ensuring safety of their brethren and motherland which makes every senior officer feel proud. Acknowledging the raw courage, dedication, and commitment displayed by the operation party, the DGP hailed the personnel for unwavering commitment to protect their own people, despite difficult terrain and challenges.
He congratulated the police party and the officers leading the operation for their success. He said that personnel of J&K police without caring for their life are working with dedication and commitment so that nobody disturbs peace and order in the UT besides ensuring the safety and security of people of J&K. This is what make J&K Police force different from others, he said. He assured that Police headquarters is committed to extending all the benefits to the deserving Jawans.
The DGP emphasized that the J&K Police along with other forces will continue to work with more strength and determination to fight and defeat the enemies of peace. Shri Vijay Kumar, ADGP Law and Order, acknowledged the jawans' bravery and encouraged them to persist in their excellent work while prioritizing safety measures. Shri Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu Zone, praised the jawans' courage in the successful operation against terrorists in Gandoh, urging officers and officials to maintain their high level of commitment and passion in future operations.
The DGP J&K also interacted with Jawans and officers at the DPL in Doda, providing an opportunity for them to share their concerns and grievances. He lent a patient ear to their issues and gave on-the-spot instructions to senior officers to take necessary actions for their redressal. DIG DKR Range Shri Shridhar Patil, DC Doda Shri Harvinder Singh, SSP Doda Shri Javaid Iqbal, Commandant IRP-5th Bn Shri Ghulam Jeelani and other jurisdictional officers of District Doda were present on the occasion.
The DIG DKR Range and SSP Doda appraised the DGP about the overall situation of the District. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the function, the DGP said that he alongwith with senior officers had come to reward and acknowledge the exceptional efforts of brave JK police personnel and SPOs. He said that adversary thinks of taking advantage of borders to push foreign terrorists here to recreate disturbances adding that J&K police and security forces with the support and cooperation of people will ensure the defeat of the enemy as has been done in past.
