AWANTIPORA: The student team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) secures a spot among the top 12 finalists in the prestigious e-Yantra Innovation Challenge, organized by IIT Bombay.
Out of 20 teams from Jammu and Kashmir, IUST is the only university from the region to qualify for the finals, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and technological excellence. Additionally, IUST served as the regional coordinating institute, hosting workshops and activities to prepare students for the competition.
The finals showcased IUST’s technical competence on a national stage. Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo commended the team, stating that this milestone reflects students' hard work and dedication. He further said that IUST remains committed to nurturing creativity and problem-solving skills at the highest level.
Congratulating the students, IUST e-yantra coordinator, Mr. Syed Mujtiba Hussain said that such achievements help IUST to strengthen its reputation as a hub of research and technological innovation, committed to empowering students for national and international excellence.
JAMMU: The Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Umesh Rai today felicitated the NAAC Coordinators for their outstanding efforts in compiling and presenting departmental data, which played a crucial role in the accreditation process. Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor lauded the collective contribution of faculty members, officers, and staff in achieving this milestone, emphasizing that their dedication and teamwork had set a benchmark in institutional excellence.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the rigorous process of internal quality assessment and reflected on his personal journey in understanding and implementing accreditation mechanisms. He praised the sense of ownership displayed by the university fraternity and highlighted the commendable coordination witnessed by the NAAC team during their visit. He also underscored the importance of a robust research policy, infrastructural development, and transdisciplinary research to further enhance the university’s academic standing.
While appreciating the efforts of all stakeholders, he also pointed out key areas for further improvement, including strengthening the alumni network, revitalizing the placement cell, and promoting high-impact research publications to improve the university’s national and international rankings. He urged faculty members to break disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to address societal challenges.
Among others who spoke on the occasion included Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development; Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. Naresh Padha, Senior most faculty member; Prof. Pankaj K. Shrivastava, Director, CDOE and Prof. Satya Pal. The speakers commended the tireless efforts of the NAAC Coordinators and shared insights on enhancing the university’s academic and administrative frameworks.
Earlier, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Director DIQA welcomed the audience. The NAAC Coordinators also shared their feedback, reflecting on their experiences and challenges during the accreditation process. Ms. Akanksha Sharma, Assistant Registrar, DIQA, conducted the proceedings, while Er. Amit Targotra AD, DIQA and the DIQA staff managed the event.
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau registered a case against Darbar Chowdhary, former Sarpanch Dhanore Gorsian and former BDC Chairman, Block Rajouri S/o Late Sh.Gulzar Ali R/o Dhanore Gorsian Rajouri, vide FIR no. 01/2025 U/S 13(1)(b) r/w section 13(2) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
The instant case was registered on the outcome of a secret verification conducted by ACB Rajouri into the allegations of accumulation of assets disproportionate to known source of income by above named accused person. The verification conducted had revealed that the above named public servant remained elected Sarpanch of panchayat Dhanore Gorsian, Rajouri in the year 2011 and also remained elected Block Development Chairman of Block Rajouri for the years 2019-2023.
During this period, he has accumulated various moveable and immovable assets worth crores in his name as well as disguised in the name of his family members which includes multiple well furnished houses, multiple plots of land, shops, luxurious vehicles and other assets.
In this way, the above named public servant namely Darbar Chowdhary S/o Late Gulzar Ali R/o Dhanore Gorsian, Rajouri, former Sarpanch Dhanore Gorsian and former Block Development Chairman, Block Rajouri has enriched himself illicitly by indulging in corrupt practices and has acquired huge assets which are prima facie disproportionate to his known source of income.
Anti Corruption Bureau after registration of case under relevant sections of law, also conducted simultaneous searches with the help of local police in presence of Magistrates/Independent Witnesses at the premises of above named accused person. Detailed and in-depth scrutiny of the seized record will be carried out during further course of investigation.
PULWAMA: The scenic beauty of Kashmir’s tulip gardens has long been a major attraction for tourists, with vibrant displays at Srinagar drawing visitors each year. In a significant step toward promoting sustainable floriculture and enhancing farmers' income, CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu a premier research and development institution of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, mandated with pre-clinical drug discovery, has also been implementing various societal Mission programmes like CSIRs Aroma and Floriculture Mission.
Under CSIR Floriculture Mission, the key verticals include Generation of Quality Planting Material of High Value Floricultural Crops, Area Expansion under Floriculture, Urban Floriculture, Post-Harvest Processing and Value Addition, Integration of Floriculture with Apiculture, Establishing Marketing Linkages, and Domestication of Wild Ornamentals. Further, through the Mission activities, the institute has been dedicated to supporting farmers through research and development, particularly in high value floricultural crop cultivation.
In conformity with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Prime Ministers clarion call for self-reliant India, the pan India CSIR Societal Mission programmes envisioned by Dr Jitendra Singh Union Minister for Science and Technology achieved remarkable achievements since last few years. The Institute has initiated tulip cultivation at its Bonera Station in the year 2022 with the primary objectives of indigenizing tulip bulb production, developing agro-technological protocols, and expanding crop cultivation.
A spokesperson informed that the initiative which started with just 10,000 bulbs in 2022, has successfully produced over one lakh bulbs within just two years, grown over an area of more than 12 kanals this season. During media interaction held at Tulip garden of Bonera Field Station, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the Bonera Station currently houses eight tulip varieties under strategic research programmes to develop indigenous tulip bulbs, assess morphological characteristics, establish agro-technological protocols and evaluate varieties for resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. He emphasized that indigenizing tulip bulb production will reduce India's reliance on imports, create economic opportunities for farmers, and contribute to the overall growth of the floriculture sector.
The newly developed Tulip Garden-cum-Experimental Field at Bonera, located in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, was opened to the public that drew thousands of enthusiastic visitors from all parts of the valley. The initiative marks a significant step toward positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for tulip bulb production in future, aiming to shift India from an import-dependent consumer to a self-sufficient producer. By integrating scientific advancements with floriculture tourism, the CSIR Floriculture Mission, besides fostering self-reliance in tulip production, also aims at enhancing the economic potential of the region’s farming communities.

Kothari's recognition highlights her exemplary work in the field of biomaterials for bioenergy and low-cost wastewater treatment. Prof. Kothari pioneering research on sustainable bioenergy solutions and wastewater treatment has garnered widespread recognition for its innovative approaches to addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
