GANDERBAL: In view of the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha and with an aim to ensure fair trade practices, prevent profiteering, and safeguard the interests of consumers, police in Ganderbal in coordination with the Executive Magistrates and the Food Safety Department conducted a comprehensive Joint Market Checking Drive across of the district.
The drive was carried out in major market areas to monitor the sale of essential commodities, food items, mutton, poultry, bakery products, vegetables, and other items witnessing increased public demand ahead of the festival. During the inspection, the joint teams checked rates, quality standards, hygiene conditions, expiry dates, and adherence to government-approved regulations.
Shopkeepers and vendors were strictly instructed to display rate lists prominently and refrain from overcharging, hoarding, black marketing, or selling substandard and expired products. The Food Safety teams also inspected eateries and food outlets to ensure cleanliness and compliance with prescribed food safety norms. During the drive, several traders were sensitized regarding consumer rights and legal provisions related to unfair trade practices. Necessary action was also initiated against violators as per law.
Police remains committed towards maintaining public order, ensuring availability of quality essential commodities, and facilitating a safe and hassle-free environment for the general public. General public has been urged to report any instances of overpricing, hoarding, black marketing, or sale of adulterated/expired items to the concerned authorities, so that strict action can be taken against the violators.
