GANDERBAL: In order to ensure smooth and peaceful observance of forthcoming auspicious month of Muharram-ul-Haram, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore today convened a meeting here to review preparedness measures, assess departmental readiness and take stock of public requirements related to the festival.
During the meeting, representatives from various Shia dominated areas of district Ganderbal highlighted a range of public issues and sought timely intervention by line departments to strengthen civic facilities and essential services ahead of Muharram.
Key issues raised included filling potholes and macadamization of roads leading to Imambargahs and along procession routes. Participants also highlighted the need for completion of pending infrastructure works, and restoration of damaged road stretches.
Demands were also made for uninterrupted drinking water supply, desilting of drains, sanitation drives, and improved sanitation facilities at major congregation sites. They also sought installation and repair of streetlights and solar lights as well as availability of backup power facilities at religious institutions.
The DC issued a series of directions to concerned departments for timely execution of works and close inter-departmental coordination. He directed all departments to conduct field assessments and make proper arrangements wherever required.
KPDCL was directed to conduct a detailed survey along procession routes and ensure tightening of loose and low-hanging wires to avoid any safety hazards, besides installation of additional street lights and power backup.
Departments concerned were asked to undertake road repairs wherever required, ensure adequate drinking water arrangements including tanker service and address sanitation-related issues, and street lighting on priority.
The Health Department was directed to establish medical camps at key congregation and procession points, besides deploying doctors, paramedical staff, essential medicines and first-aid facilities. The department was further instructed to keep ambulances stationed at strategic locations to provide prompt emergency response and healthcare support during major Muharram gatherings and processions.
DC also directed for deployment of adequate number of fire tenders, ensuring adequate availability of ration, LPG, and fire wood. Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kangan, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Executive Engineers and other district and sectorial officers.
