JAMMU: Residents of Sheikh Nagar in Ward No. 47, Jammu, staged a protest against alleged encroachment and public inconvenience caused by local resident Pooran Chand Sharma.

The protestors alleged that Pooran Chand Sharma had encroached upon a public lane by using the lane as a parking for a double-storey building, reportedly being used as a library for students. They claimed that the encroachment has severely affected public passage to the dwelling at the back side, resulting in taotally blockage of the passage.

The agitating residents further alleged that vehicles are deliberately parked in a manner that obstructs the movement of the general public. They also claimed that during night hours, the lane is allegedly blocked using an iron chain, causing additional blockade to the people residing in the locality.

The protestors also raised concerns regarding the demolition of a Nallah Puli during ongoing repair works of the drain, stating that the issue has further aggravated hardships for families living on the backside of the locality.

Upon receiving information, the local MLA and police officials reached the spot and interacted with the protesting residents. The officials assured the people that their grievances would be looked into and appropriate action would be taken to address the issues. Following the assurance, the protestors dispersed peacefully.

Umesh Kumar Gabbar, Subhash Chander, Sheela Devi, Seema Devi, Vandana Devi, Abhi, Sumit, Sahil, Koushalya Devi, Rani, Rajni, Rampaul, and several other local residents were present in the protest.
