- With over two decades of experience in International Education and Curriculum Design, Karol Tóth brings precious insights into faculty training, and building academic excellence for students
NEW DELHI: Academio, the online academic tutoring platform specialising in International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge IGCSE curricula, has appointed Karol Tóth as Chief Academic Officer (CAO), to further strengthen the platform’s academic leadership as it expands its footprint across India’s international curriculum tutoring ecosystem.
The appointment comes as Academio marks its first year of operations, having recorded up to 20% month-on-month growth in student enrolments, built a network of 32 specialist educators including practising IB and Cambridge examiners, sourced 95% through academic referrals, and delivered results where 95% of students improved by at least one grade and 90% exceeded their predicted grades in board examinations.
Karol Tóth brings with him more than two decades of experience in IB-aligned international education, with deep expertise across school leadership, curriculum design, faculty development and international accreditation. His appointment comes at a time when demand for IB and Cambridge education in India continues to grow rapidly, with increasing adoption extending beyond metro cities into tier 2 and tier 3 markets.
While student enrolment in IB curricula has accelerated, access to experienced academic leadership and specialist educators remains critically limited. It is a structural gap that Academio has begun to address through its referral-first educator network and personalised, one-on-one model, and one that Karol Tóth’s appointment is designed to further close at an institutional level.
Speaking about his appointment as Chief Academic Officer, at Academio, Mr Karol Tóth said, “What drew me to Academio was their commitment to achieve and sustain the highest level of academic education quality. International Curricula such as IB and Cambridge require far more than just subject tutoring. They demand educators who understand inquiry-based learning, assessment frameworks, and how students develop analytical thinking over time. Academio is building a model that recognises this distinction and is committed to delivering meaningful academic support at that standard.”
Adding to this, Nitasha Sagar Kukar, Founder and CEO of Academio, said “The appointment marks an important step in the journey of Academio and is aligned with our long-term academic vision. Karol Tóth brings an exceptional institutional understanding of IB and Cambridge education boards, which is rare. He has built and led schools, guided accreditation processes, developed faculty systems, and worked within these curricula at the highest level. As Academio charts an ambitious growth plan, having the depth of academic leadership becomes incredibly important, not only for scale but also for maintaining integrity and rigour in how students learn.”
Prior to Academio, Karol Tóth served as the founding Principal of the Cochin International School (CIS), a 400 student institution in Kochi, where he led the school’s successful IB Primary years programme accreditation in 2023 and full Cambridge accreditation across IGCSE and A -Levels in 2024. Prior to CIS, Tóth served as Principal at Laxmi Global School in Gujarat and Sadbhawa world School in Kerala. Across institutions, his work was focused on building inclusive, academically rigorous learning environments, designed to help students not only meet but excel in international curricula standards, while also creating strong faculty development systems.
At Academio, Karol Tóth will lead the organisation’s overall academic direction, and oversee quality standards across its IB and Cambridge IGCSE programmes. His mandate includes strengthening Academio’s educator network, developing robust academic systems, and ensuring personalised, one-on-one learning experiences that go beyond exam preparation and focus on conceptual depth and long-term academic capability.
