SRINAGAR: Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Abdul Majid Padder said that the government has taken up removal of encroachment on large scale and on Ningli Nallah removal of encroachment is being carried out with the help of Revenue and Police Department and is in progress.
The Minister stated this while replying to a question by Mohammad Muzaffar Parray in the Legislative Council today. The Minister said that in the area from Bangdara to Kalantra most of the illegally planted trees on the embankments of the nallah have been cut down. He said apart from this Kacha structures like Taarbandi, cow shed etc have also been removed in Dungdara, Bangdara, Tarzoo, Alibagh, Panzipora, Choora, Bulgam besides demarcation of nallah boundaries has been carried out.
The Minister also informed that there are some permanent structures within the Nallah boundaries particularly in Tarzoo, Bangdara and Alibagh, which are yet to be removed. Meanwhile, violators have been given notice to remove these structures, he added. The Minister said removal of shoals etc with the help of mechanical means (earth moving machines) is a continuous process. He said in critical areas like Kalantra, Wagoora, Saloosa/Shrakwara and Monagam removal of shoals through mechanical means has also been carried out.
The Minister said that the requirement of irrigation is mainly during peak discharge period when there is plenty of water in the streams and therefore, water supply schemes which in any case have comparatively less requirement, do not affect irrigation supplies. He further said that there is no requirement of alternate irrigation schemes for Wagoora to Badi Ningli as this area is already provided with adequate irrigation supplies.
The Minister said that the problem of floods in the area is proposed to be addressed through training of Ningli Nallah for which DPR is under preparation. While intervening Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Syed Basharat Bukhari said that efforts are being made to address the issue of dredging of the said nallah. He said alternate water supply schemes for Baramulla and Sopore have also been announced that will ensure that the WSS do not affect irrigation supplies.
