GANDERBAL|SONAMARG: As we wrote before, about forests are the precious living jewels of our life" Our past as well as our future as a nation, is inextricably linked to our forests. Our forests are the source of almost everything, while smugglers again compelled us to write about the forest incident.
The green gold in Sonamarg is in danger because of unabated loot of forests by the timber mafia' cutting green gold looting and built shelter (Gujjar huts) in picturesque place at Sonamarg.
The failure of authorities to curb the timber smuggling has resulted in wanton loot of green trees in Drang area of Sonamarg in this central Kashmir Ganderbal, timber smugglers are active in this range, who are looting the trees hassle free, and built shelter(Gujjar huts) by fresh forest trees.
The wanton plunder of Drung in Sonamarg forest range of Ganderbal is going on unabated as no official from concern department is visible to protect the green gold, Drang area in Sonamarg have been badly affected as the timber smugglers daily fell prized green gold. This has drastically reduced the forest cover in the area making it denuding and vulnerable to soil erosion.
JK Monitor News Network has learnt that the timber smugglers are busy in felling down of the prized trees in the Sonamarg bowl of Central Kashmir Ganderbal district and the authorities appear to have no knowledge about it. We think that the trees are being cut in such a way as if these smugglers have got license.
