KARGIL: 44 Mw Chutuk Hydel Project is not generating Electricity since 7 pm yesterday, as the Project has been flooded due to some internal breach and water has been flooded upto 12 meter, submerging 3 floors of the project. NHPC Kargil called for help from Army, Fire Brigade and other agencies to evacuate the flooded water from the tunnel and Project and water has been pumping out from the last 14 hours, told CEC Kargil Haji Hanifa while talking to our Correspondent.
Answering to a question, that when will the power be restored, Haji Hanifa told that it will be assessed only after dewatering the flooded water from the 3 floors of the project as well as from the tunnel. Haji Hanifa along with Executive Councilors and District Officers inspected the Project site and assessed the position on the spot by inspecting the flooded site.
For an early dewatering of the flooded water NHPC has been directed to procure Pumps from Leh and if needed will procure Pumps from Srinagar and within two days the project will be dewatered. Answering to a question of whether the council is asking for an investigation on the continuous problems arising in the project, Haji Hanifa told that there was a breach earlier and other problems raised and now the whole project is flooded, hence the question arises and council will look into the matter very seriously and if needed will be investigated.
