JAMMU: The State Level Annual Calendar of Activities of the department of Youth Services & Sports for the year 2015-16 has been finalized here today. The calendar has been finalized during a meeting of the department convened under the Chairmanship of Director General, Youth Services & Sports, Navin Agarwal, to deliberate upon issues concerning finalization of the annual calendar of activities.

 

All the District Youth Services & Sports Officers of the state attended the meeting which threadbare discussion was held on proposed calendar of activities. It was informed that maximum sports disciplines have been included in the calendar of activities with the motive that every scholar is given a chance to be associated at least in one of the sports disciplines. All the District Officers were directed to conduct inter school competitions by or before the commencement of State Level Competitions.

 

The State Level Annual Calendar of Activities has been finalized with a condition that State Level Competitions shall be held only if at least 8 District teams including at least 2 districts from other division participate in the event. Joint Director, Youth Services &Sports, Kashmir, Madan Lal, Deputy Director Central, Youth Services & Sports Jammu HaJi Mirza Hussain, Deputy Director, Youth Services & Sports Jammu, Rishi Kumar and other senior officers attended the meeting.

 

 


JAMMU: Director Handloom Development Department, T Angchuk, today inaugurated 5-days exhibition-cum-fair organised by Samba and Kathua Handloom clusters at Dussehra Ground, Gandhi Nagar, here this afternoon. Deputy Director Handloom Development Department Namrita Dogra, Deputy Director Central Sat Pal Bavaria, Parvaiz Naik, Assistant Director Handloom Development Department Samba, Dr. Kusum Chib, Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Udhampur, Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Kathua N D Verma besides others senior officers of the department and weavers were present on the occasion.

 

The Samba and Billawar Handloom Clusters have been sponsored by Development Commissioner Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles Government of India. The handloom products being manufactured by the weavers of Samba and Billawar clusters are lenin and cotton fabrics, Cotton bed sheets, Pashmina Shawls, Raffle Shawls and stoles, tweed, woollen blankets, woollen shawls and other home furnishing products.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Director Handloom Development Department T Angchuk appreciated the efforts of the officers of the department in putting up elegant display of handloom products of the clusters. He said that handloom products of the J&K state are famous world over for intricate designs, precision and high quality. He said the department provides genuine products to the buyers without exploitation at the hands of middlemen besides showcasing state’s rich arts and crafts at national and international levels. He said that state’s handloom trade is linked to its rich heritage and culture. He asked the officers of the department to explore modern marketing channels in the world market to promote sale of Dogri, Pahari, Gojri and Kashmiri products.

 

Earlier, the Cultural Wing of Information Department organized variety programme on the inaugural day of the exhibition. The artists presented Dogri, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri songs including dances which were highly applauded by the audience. The artists of Cultural Wing of Information Department who participated in the cultural programme included Jeevan Sharma, Vijay Anand, Kamal Kumar, Bodh Raj and Surjeet Singh Sumbaria. Parvaiz Naik, Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Samba presented vote of thanks on the occasion.

 

 


DODA: A meeting to review physical and financial achievements under District Annual Plan 2014-15, was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar today. It was informed in the meeting that an achievement of 77 percent has been made by the line departments under the district plan. While reviewing the achievements, Deputy Commissioner stressed upon district officers to gear up and put in their best efforts for 100% utilization of funds.

 

 


UDHAMPUR: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal to discuss issues for better implementation of Non Pesticides Management (NPM) project in block Chenani. District Development Commissioner suggested to converge mushroom cultivation along with other livelihoods practices in the resource block and also asked Chief Agriculture Officer to provide technical inputs regarding the cultivation of mushroom to the Self Help Groups(SHGs) being developed under UMEED in Chenani.

 

Additional Mission Director JKSRLM gave brief account of the project through power point presentation. He briefed that Non Pesticides Management project is an initiative to reduce the cost of cultivation by promoting agriculture without chemical pesticides and chemical fertilizers which would help to make agriculture economically viable without compromising on yields. Among others the meeting was attended by Joint Director Planning, Rakesh Jamwal, Additional Mission Director J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Jammu, Dr. Arun Manhas, Chief Agriculture Officer and Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Udhmapur.

 


UDHAMPUR: The Department of Handicrafts Udhampur today organized an awareness camp at village Magiote of district Udhampur, to create awareness among  the masses regarding schemes launched by the Department. A large number of villagers from the area viz. Magiote, Upper and lower Magiote, Ferna and other nearby villages participated in the event. Assistant Director Handicrafts Udhampur, Vishavjeet Singh highlighted the schemes run by the department such as registration of artisans and loan under Artisan Credit Card and Micro Credit Plan.
