JAMMU: In the backdrop of Women’s week, Radio Kashmir Jammu in collaboration with Government College for Women, Parade, gave a unique present to all its listeners. An all Women Artists Dogri Music Concert. Sweet melodious voices emanated from the auditorium of Government College for Women, Parade today and all who were present in the auditorium only swayed to these sweet melodies. The trail of music only broke often by the thunderous applaud by the audience who were present in a large number right from the start of the event. The contribution of women folk can never be underestimated in any field but more so in the field of music.
The event started with the traditional lighting of the lamp by D.C.Samba Mrs.Sheetal Nanda, she was joined by Smt.Padma sachdev, the Principal G.C.W Parade, Prof. Hemla Aggarwal, Programme Executive and in charge Women’s programme Radio Kashmir Jammu Mrs.Anjana Badyal and Station Director Radio Kashmir Jammu Sh.V.K.Sambyal.
Addressing the jam packed auditorium in his inaugural address, Mr.Sambyal highlighted the contributions of illustrious women artists in the field of music and especially focused on the Jammu region. Jammu has a rich tradition of folk and Classical music and women of the region have excelled in both. He stated that today’s concert was a testimony to the talent that exists in Jammu now. He also remembered some voices that are no more with us and paid a rich tribute to them. He then threw open the concert to the artists and to the audience who were all eagerly waiting for the event to start.
Soon after, that the Women artists of the region doled out melodious Dogri songs one after the other to the invited audience. Some very old and well known songs, the songs that touch the heart of Jammu were especially included in the concert.

A special song on the theme of Swatch Bharat was also included in the programme to sensitize the people on the need for cleanliness. The focus area of the programme was also on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The station tried to include prominent singers of every era and bring them on one platform, a unique attempt of Radio Kashmir Jammu. Prominent women writer of the State, Smt.Padma sachdev was a special invitee to the event.
The Dogri Music Concert, showcased the mesmerizing talent of Sangeet Kala Natak Acadmey Award winner Dogri ‘BHAKH’ singer Krishna Kumari and other illustrious singers like Jitender Kour, Upma Sharma, Asha Kesar, Chinmayi Sharma, Rita Khadyal, Kusha Sharma, Chanchal Sharma. Sweeta Devi and party sang some melodious Bhaakh. The programme was composed by Ravi Sharma.
D.C.Samba, Smt.Sheetal Verma, thanked Radio Kashmir Jammu for always acknowledging and encouraging the strength of women artists and for organizing such an All Women Artists music concert in the backdrop of Women’s week. She also focused on the need of saving the girl child. The special invitee to the programme, eminent Dogri writer Padma Shree Smt.Padma Sachdev also thanked Radio Kashmir Jammu’s efforts to preserve and further the age old tradition of Dogri songs especially Baakh. The almost two hours long event left everyone spellbound by the finesse and dexterity of the local artists and everyone longed for more. The Station Director Sh.V.K.Sambyal promised that more such events shall be held periodically not only in Jammu City but in the entire region. He also informed the house that on the 10th of March, the Station is organizing another outstanding event in Brigadier Rajinder singh Auditorioum of Jammu University wherein prominent women classical music exponents from all over India shall be performing. He extended His invitation to all for that programme. This event shall remain etched in the minds of all those who were present in today’s event for a long time to come.
