- Launches campaign to distribute ration to over 100 families
MUMBAI: COVID-19’s longest running hunger-mitigation initiative, Feeding From Far has joined hands with ration and shelter donation NGO – Uday Foundation to provide respite to those affected by the recent fire tragedy in Jamrushi Nagar, Malad, in the west of Mumbai.
About 100 families lost their houses in a massive fire caused by an LPG blast last monthlosing accessibility to shelter and food. The Marathi hamlet that hasanyway been struggling to meet even basic necessities like electricity, water and sanitation for years now with no government intervention to displace the community, was at the receiving end of the mishap feeling more crippled than before. The fire gutted 100 shanties leaving behind casualties and taking away lives from the slum that otherwise houses 14000 families living below the poverty line,
After an on-ground survey and ‘call for help’ by one of the volunteers, Feeding from Far was joined by Uday Foundation to reinstate these families. They directed a part of their ‘roti de’ ration towards restoration of houses fallen prey to the accident.
Joining them in the movement as Feeding From Far set out to distribute7000 meal kits to these 100 families, both Feeding From Far and Uday Foundation are aligned in their mission to curb hunger-related miseries across the country.
Everymeal kits contains cooking essentials such as rice (7kgs), wheat (7kgs), dal (1.5kgs), salt (1kg), cooking oil (1l), sugar (1kg), chilli powder, (150gms) andturmeric powder (150gms) costing INR700enough to suffice a family of five for a week.Additionally, the initiative has also deployed on-ground volunteers to offer food ration kits to the families and survivorsfor the next couple of months.

The first seeds of Feeding From Far were sown in 2020, when the founder of this initiative, Paritosh Pant, a social entrepreneur took up the task of bringing meals to people affected by the pandemic. Today, the volunteer-driven programme has distributed over 33lakh meals across Dharavi, Govandi and Macchimar Nagar in Mumbai with the larger vision of making India hunger-free.
