SHOPIAN: In response to the alarming rise in drug abuse, Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) Shopian today organized a comprehensive ‘Nasha Mukt Awareness Programme’ at Kellar Chowan, Shopian. The programme focused on educating the community about the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of collective efforts to eradicate this menace.
Participants were informed about the importance of parental guidance, community support, and early intervention in preventing substance abuse among youth. District Mission Coordinator, SHEW threw light on the physical, mental and social consequences of drug addiction, emphasizing its destructive effects on individuals and families.
Attendees were made aware of the stringent legal actions against drug traffickers and the role of law enforcement in tackling the issue. A call to action was issued for the community to play an active role in identifying and reporting drug-related activities to authorities.
During the event, it was emphasized that citizens should immediately report any instances of drug trafficking or individuals involved in drug abuse. To facilitate this, a toll-free helpline number 1446 has been made available for anonymous reporting. The SHEW reiterated its commitment to fostering a drug-free society and encouraged collective efforts from all sections of the community to safeguard the future of youth and society at large.
