SRINAGAR: The Department of Social Welfare, SANKALP- Hub for Empowerment of Women- Mission Shakti Srinagar Friday celebrated ‘International Girl Child Day’ at GGHSS Kothibagh Srinagar under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).
International Day of the Girl Child is an annual day celebrated on October 11 in recognition of the rights of girls and the challenges they face globally. The Day aims to promote girl’s empowerment and human rights and to address the needs and challenges girls face. The Day is a time to celebrate girls, amplify their voices and advocate for their rights.
The importance of this Day is educating girls can lead to them having healthier, more productive lives, earning higher income, and participating in decisions that affect them. It can also strengthen economies and reduce inequality. The programme started with the Welcome remarks by Ruqaya Ashraf, District Mission Coordinator SANKALP-HEW Mission Shakti Srinagar.
Panel Discussion through Special Guests, interactive session and felicitation of Girl achievers from various fields was also held during the programme. Panel Discussion on International Day of the Girl Child by various dignified Panelists emphasized on raising awareness about the challenges girls face and fostering empathy and understanding, empowering girls by inspiring them to pursue their dreams and become role models for others.
The various panelists invited for the programme were Dr. Mantasha Binti Rashid, Deputy Director, Rural Sanitation who threw light on the topic Women Supporting women: Gender Equality & Opportunities; Syed Sleet Shah, DySP Hqrs, who discussed about Crime, Policing and Gender-Do’s & Dont’s.
Inayat, CEO Reform Foundation Srinagar shared his views on Financial Independence for girls, through Career Building and Dr. Lubna, Medical Officer PHC Zadibal gave an insightful talk on Reproductive Health of Girls respectively.
