UDHAMPUR: A young man from Udhampur district has transformed his life from drug addiction to self-reliance. The individual, who has requested anonymity, stands today as an example that recovery is possible.
A few years ago, addiction had pushed the young man into a state of despair. His health declined, family bonds weakened and social isolation set in. Substance abuse steadily eroded his physical, emotional and financial well-being.
Timely intervention changed the course of his life. He was identified and referred to Government Medical College Udhampur, where a team of doctors, counsellors and rehabilitation experts provided him with medical treatment, counselling and continuous emotional support. The road to recovery was long and demanding, requiring determination, patience and willpower. With professional guidance and family support, he gradually overcame addiction and regained confidence.
Determined to rebuild his future and become financially independent, he expressed his desire to start a livelihood venture and reintegrate into society. Recognising his commitment and positive transformation, the District Administration Udhampur extended support under Mission YUVA, a self-employment initiative of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir aimed at empowering youth through sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Following proper verification and recommendation, financial assistance in the form of a bank loan was sanctioned and disbursed through the concerned banking institution. Utilising the support, he established his own small business venture.
Today, the young man is earning a livelihood and moving forward with renewed confidence and purpose. His journey highlights the impact of timely medical intervention, rehabilitation, counselling and government-backed livelihood support, and sends a clear message: with compassion, opportunity and collective support, recovery is possible and every individual deserves a second chance.
