RAMBAN: Handicrafts Service Centre Udhampur, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is organising a three-day Craft Demonstration-cum-Awareness Programme at Government Model Higher Secondary School, here today.

The programme aimed to generate awareness among students about the rich heritage of Indian handicrafts and provide them with hands-on exposure to various traditional crafts.

During the programme, four resource persons- Sumera Bashir (Crewel Embroidery), Aniza Mushtaq (Paper Machie), S.S. Billowria (Basohli Painting) and Shahida Parveen (Crochet Craft)- introduced students to different crafts and actively engaged them throughout the workshop sessions.

The programme was inaugurated by Kewal Krishan Principal of the school, Saurabh Sawhney, CTO HSC Udhampur and Krishan Kumar Maurya, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, HSC Udhampur.

Saurabh Sawhney emphasised the importance of organising such programmes to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Indian handicrafts and to sensitise students towards traditional crafts.

The Principal of the school expressed gratitude to the department for organising the programme and lauded the efforts of the department for creating awareness among students about the importance and value of handicrafts. The students actively engaged themselves and more than 100 of them participated on the first day of this event.
