JAMMU: The Postgraduate Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, today organized an orientation session for the students of M.Sc. Home Science (Human Development) III Semester, marking the commencement of their internship programme under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Jammu and Mission Directorate Poshan, J&K.

The orientation session was conducted by Ms. Tanvi Gupta, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Satwari Project, and Ms. Madhu Verma, Supervisor. The resource persons familiarized the students with the functioning of Anganwadi Centres and the services provided under the ICDS/Saksham Anganwadi framework. They highlighted the role of Anganwadi Centres in promoting child development, nutrition, maternal health and community welfare.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sarika Manhas, Head, Postgraduate Department of Home Science, emphasized the significance of field-based learning in enhancing students’ understanding of child development programmes and community outreach initiatives. She stated that the internship would provide valuable practical exposure and professional learning opportunities to the students.

Prof. Sarika Manhas is the Nodal Officer for the internship programme from the University of Jammu, while Ms. Malvika Sharma, Deputy Director, Mission Poshan, J&K, is the Nodal Officer from Mission Poshan, J&K.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. Among those present on the occasion were Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof. Shashi Manhas and Prof. Samridhi Arora, who encouraged the students to make the most of this experiential learning opportunity. The internship programme aims to strengthen students’ professional competencies through direct engagement with community-based child development and welfare services.
