JAMMU: The Congress party’s latest outcry on “alarming inflation” is nothing but a manufactured narrative to mislead the public and hide its own dismal track. Dr. Hari Dutt Shishu, BJP State Spokesperson, strongly rebuts this propaganda with facts and logic and compared Modi regime with UPA.
He stated that during Congress-led UPA rule, India saw double-digit inflation for years. Food inflation touched 15.3% in 2009-10 and CPI averaged 9.5% between 2009-2014. In contrast, under PM Narendra Modi’s government, average CPI inflation has remained around 5.1% despite global shocks like Covid-19, Ukraine war, and Red Sea crisis. This is fiscal discipline, not distress.
He further stated that Congress conveniently ignores that inflation today is a global phenomenon. US, UK, and EU nations faced 40-year highs in 2022-23. India, with 140 crore people, has managed far better due to proactive steps: reduction in petrol/diesel excise duty, free food grains to 80 crore people under PMGKAY, and direct benefit transfers that cut leakages. Congress wants to blame the Centre for what even developed economies could not escape.
Prices of essentials stable despite crude touching $120/barrel, Centre cut excise twice. Congress-ruled states like Himachal and Karnataka refused to pass relief. Dr.Shishu further elaborated that Wheat and rice prices stabilized through OMSS and buffer stock release. Tomato-onion price spikes were seasonal and controlled within weeks. Urea still at Rs 266/bag against global price of Rs.3500/bag. Congress never provided such subsidy cover to farmers.
Dr.Shishu castigated congress of its double standards and said that When in power, Congress gave 12 subsidized LPG cylinders per year. Today, Ujjwala beneficiaries get Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder and pay around Rs 603 – cheaper than 2014 effective rates. Congress opposes every relief measure in Parliament yet sheds crocodile tears outside.
India is the fastest growing major economy at 6.8% GDP growth with inflation moderating to 4.75% in May 2026. RBI, IMF, and World Bank have all praised India’s inflation management. Congress wants recession-era despondency because it cannot digest India’s rise.
Dr. Hari Dutt Shishu said, “Congress has no issue to fight elections, so it manufactures fear. People remember the 2008-2014price rise when salt touched Rs 60/kg. and onions Rs 100/kg. BJP believes in ‘Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan’. Dr.Shishu warned Congress to stop insulting the intelligence of Indians with half-truths.”
He further appealed to the media and citizens to see data, not drama. The Modi government is committed to keeping inflation within RBI’s band while ensuring growth and welfare.
