SHOPIAN: As a part of public outreach programme, Police in Shopian observed Thana Diwas across the district to enhance community engagement and address public concerns. The event was attended by Addl. SP Shopian, Shri Shukat Rafiq-JKPS, at Police Post Wachi, while similar programmes were held at all police stations under the supervision of respective jurisdictional officers.
At Wachi, the event saw participation from community members, farmers, Auqaf Committee representatives, Numberdars, Chowkidars, teachers, and traders. Addl SP Shopian attentively listened to the grievances and concerns raised by the attendees and assured the public that Shopian Police remains committed to being accessible and responsive. The participants assured were assured by the officer that grievances related to policing will be addressed promptly, while those concerning civil administration will be taken up with the relevant authorities for priority resolution.
As part of the initiative, a special session was conducted to raise public awareness about the newly enacted criminal laws and grievance redressal mechanisms. The session primarily focused on educating the public about key changes in the criminal justice system, their impact on policing, and legal proceedings. Attendees were encouraged to familiarize themselves with these reforms to ensure a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, Addl SP Shopian urged the public to come forward with any information related to drug-related activities, assuring swift action.
