- A total of 4098 saplings were planted, 604 Nature Walks were organized, and 225 visits to nearby villages were made. The event witnessed the participation of 15359 students from 409 schools.
SRINAGAR: The World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor in all the Schools of District Srinagar. The event marked the launch of the Summer Camp Campaign, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation among the youth.
The day-long celebration began with a pledge-taking ceremony at Hokarsar Wetlands, where Mr. Abdul Hamid Fani, Chief Education Officer Srinagar, was joined by Mr. Altaf Hussain Dentoo, DFO; Dr. Mohammad Jaffer, Principal GHSS GundHassi Bhat; Shiekh Nisar Ahmad, Range Officer; Mr. Rahi Riyaz, State Advisory Board Member CAMPA; Mr. Irfan, SHO,and Ms. Nazrana, DNO Summer Camp. The ceremony was attended by 510 students, teachers, and community members from GHSS GundHassi Bhat and adjacent Middle Schools.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Abdul Hamid Fani ,Chief Education Officer Srinagar emphasized the need to join hands to stop land degradation and assist in land restoration for the common good of humanity. "We must leave the planet a richer place for future generations than the one we inherited," he urged.
The event featured a Nature Walk that started from Hokarsar Wetland and culminated at GHSS GundHassi Bhat. The participants were encouraged to appreciate the beauty of nature and understand the importance of preserving it. CEO Srinagar appreciated Ms. Nazrana, DNO Summer Camp and Dr. Mohammad Jaffer, Principal GHSS GundHassi Bhat for organizing the program.
Later in the day, Chief Education Officer Srinagar was joined by Mr. Nisar Ahmad, Divisional Nodel Officer, Kashmir Summer Camp for the program at BHSS Zadibal. The program commenced with a pledge, followed by an awareness session and a plantation drive.
CEO Srinagar highlighted the importance of taking immediate steps for land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. He thanked Mr. Nisar Ahmad for gracing the occasion and assured that District Srinagar would follow all the activities of Summer Camp with maximum participation.
Mr. Nisar Ahmad, Divisional Nodel Officer, Kashmir Summer Camps while interacting with the participants, stressed the need for individuals to contribute towards environmental conservation. "It is high time that we start acting towards preserving our planet for future generations ," he urged. He encouraged the students to act as Environment Ambassadors in their locality.
The event concluded with the planting of saplings at BHSS Zadibal . Ms. Ishrat, Principal BHSS Zadibal, thanked the dignitaries for gracing the occasion.
