BARAMULLA/ KULGAM: In a prompt and decisive action, Police in Baramulla, acting on credible information, uncovered and destroyed an illegal poppy straw cultivation spanning approximately one kanal of land in Heing, Kunzer. The land is owned by Nazir Ahmad Sheikh son of Late Abdul Hamid Sheikh resident of Heing Kunzer. Besides, Police in Kulgam along with officers of the Revenue department launched a special Poppy destruction drive.

In Baramulla, a police party from Police Station Kunzer headed by SHO Police Station Kunzer and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Karhama and officials from the Excise and Agriculture Departments visited the location and confirmed the illegal activity in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act. The illicit crop was destroyed on the spot as per the due process of law.

Accordingly, an FIR No. 40/2025 under sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kunzer and a thorough investigation has been launched. Police Kulgam launched a special drive and a huge cultivation of Poppy spread over nearly about 03 Kanals was destroyed at Village Oriel Kund and other adjacent areas by the special team of Police Kulgam headed by SHO Police Station Kund along with officers of Revenue department.

In this connection a case vide FIR number 15/2025 Under Section 8/18 NDPS act stands registered at police station Kund and further investigation is going on. Police reaffirms its commitment to a drug-free society and urges citizens to report any such illegal activities. Public is also requested to extend cooperation to the Police and come forward with any information regarding any kind of anti-social activity in their neighborhood.
