DODA: Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh today chaired a comprehensive meeting at the Conference Hall DC Office Complex to review the status of under construction Jal Shakti schemes across the district. The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat,  Divisional Forest Officer,  Xen PHE, Chief Education Officer,  District Welfare Officer, Principals of Degree Colleges from  Kastigarh and Bhaderwah , AEEs JEEs and officials from concerned departments.  

 The SE Jal Shakti also participated virtually. Discussions revolved around various interventions required for conserving water resources, ensuring sustainable water management and strengthening traditional water conservation methods. The Deputy Commissioner directed RDD functionaries to ensure the establishment of rooftop water conservation systems in government buildings, schools and every panchayat to optimize rainwater harvesting. He also called for the rejuvenation of traditional water bodies and mandated fencing around springs to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination.

The DC emphasized the need for regular updates and geo-tagging of all 195 Amrit Sarovar projects across the district to ensure their proper maintenance. Additionally he instructed CEO Doda to organize awareness programs in educational institutions under Jal Shakti Abhiyan fostering a culture of water conservation among students. The Chief Agriculture Officer was also directed to engage Krishi Kalyan Groups KKGs in promoting awareness regarding water conservation at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the importance of afforestation in groundwater recharge the DC urged the forest department and other stakeholders to conduct extensive plantation drives near water bodies. He also underscored the implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan - Catch the Rain JSA-CTR across the district which includes rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of small rivers, renovation of traditional water sources and intensive afforestation. The need for inter-departmental coordination to effectively implement water conservation strategies was emphasized. Furthermore the water crisis in the Chirrala area was discussed and the DC directed SE and Xen PHE to deploy an expert team to assess the situation and identify suitable solutions for tapping new water resources.

In conclusion the DC stressed the importance of a structured water conservation plan integrating community participation infrastructural improvements and awareness campaigns. He instructed all concerned departments to ensure the timely execution of conservation measures including regular monitoring and maintenance of water bodies. He reiterated that sustainable water management is essential for the district's long-term environmental health and directed officials to take proactive steps to preserve and efficiently utilize water resources.
