JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu today inaugurated the new building of the Maharishi Aurobindo Library at Chanakya Bhawan. The inauguration was carried out by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, in the presence of Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, University Officials, and staff of the library.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sanjeev Jain highlighted the pivotal role of the library in strengthening teaching, learning, and research activities at the University. He stated that the Maharishi Aurobindo Library provides 24×7 remote access to its digital resources, enabling scholars, students, and faculty members to access academic content anytime and from anywhere.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Jain informed that an E-Library facility will soon be operational in the library, further enhancing digital learning opportunities for the university community. He also noted with satisfaction that all Ph.D. theses awarded by the University have been uploaded to the Shodhganga Repository, contributing to the dissemination of quality research and knowledge.
Prof. Jain emphasized that the newly inaugurated library is equipped with modern facilities and a rich collection of academic resources. The library currently houses more than 18,000 books under the Book Bank Scheme, over 2,000 books related to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), around 1,500 e-books, and access to more than one lakh e-journals from nearly 30 publishers through the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative. These resources are accessible both within the campus and through remote login facilities.
The library has a seating capacity for more than 150 readers at a time and is fully air-conditioned with aesthetically designed interiors and modern furniture, creating a comfortable and conducive environment for study and research.
Highlighting the University's commitment to academic integrity, Prof. Jain stated that the library provides access to the iThenticate anti-plagiarism software for faculty members and research scholars. He further informed that the Book Bank facility is available for students of all departments, under which semester books are issued to students for a period of six months to support their academic pursuits.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the library staff and university administration in developing the state-of-the-art facility and expressed confidence that the new library building would emerge as a vibrant hub of knowledge, innovation, and research excellence. The inauguration ceremony concluded with a tour of the newly established library facilities by the Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries.
