“The tyrant dies and his rule ends, the martyr dies and his rule begins.” — Soren Kierkegard
While I was coming back from Majlis-e-Hussaini and I was at my bed and I was thinking that we are saying that everybody has a right to fight for his self determination and to rise up for injustice but certain sounds hit my mind, it was “rise up, rise up for injustice, don’t to let the falsehood triumph over truth, do not let the world to forget my sacrifice don’t forget the blood which painted the land of Karbala, don’t forget the inhuman and barbaric treatment of Yazdi forces over little children and women, belonging to the Hussaini camp, who raised his voice against the injustice and tyranny of tyrant rulers, adding that I have done all this to save Islam, to let the indigenous and those whom world are saying subaltern to speak and I stand by them and I stand against Injustice and the inhuman, barbaric and devil tricks of YAZID.”
So I got inspiration to write this article as a protest against the atrocities of tyrant rulers, the terrorists, the violent and tyrant agencies whose aim is to make the world battleground, killing the innocent children, spreading the terror in the world, taking away from the common people the right to speak (Hussain had stood for the subaltern, indigenous people and he stood for right to speak without any fear.).
The word Islam means peace, islam doesn’t allow any kind of violence on any individual weather he belongs to Isalm, Christainity or Hinduism or what so ever. Isalm completely opposes and condemns any injurious treatment or force except in the case of war or punishment to criminals according to Islamic Laws. Islam completely opposes any kind of force or injury on women even in wars. But the question that boggles one’s mind is why Hussain raised his voice against Yazeed? Why he stood against Yazeedi force and sacrificed his all family members even a six months Children was sacrificed? Hussain himself had clarified it in his will which he left to his brother before leaving for Karbala he says, “I have taken this stand not out of arrogance’ or pride, neither out of mischief or Injustice. I have risen to seek reform in the community of my Grandfather. I would like to bid good and forbid evil, and follow the tradition of my grandfather and my father ‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib”.
Islam was put in the veil of ignorance. All the Islamic principles were being avoided and they were being interpreted in a negative way by Yazeed and introduced himself as a vice-regent of God on earth and made. He introduced the new kind of Islam in which he gave priority to injustice, allowed any kind of violence even against women, wine and other luxurious things were on its heights under Yazeedi rule. People were not able to recognize what is right and wrong; they were completely put behind ignorance where it became very difficult to recover the Islamic principles which teach lessons of equality and right to live with dignity.
So it was Hussain only who raised his voice against the injustice and morally degraded activities which were prevalent at that time and Hussain clarified it that in order to save the Islam from ruining I will sacrifice my all dears and nears even six months children and further clarified that “Dignified Death is better than a humiliated life. Hussain stood against Yazeed in order to bring people out of this ignorance and know them their rights and enlighten the society with real Islamic principles. A man like Hussain couldn’t tolerate such unbearable and insane deeds which were taking Islam towards the path of destruction so he started a journey from Madina to Karbal against the Yazid. So on 10th of Muharam-ul-Haram, Hussain with his 72 companions were mercilessly butchered by the odious and wicked army of cruel and nefarious Yazid who was indulged in morally degraded and luxurious activities and for him humanity means nothing just to live a luxurious life of a dictator.
The ignorance was at its zenith that the tragedy of Karbala and Hussains’s travel from Madina to Karbala was wrongly narrated and some Muslims misinterpreted it and rteduce the great historical events to minor incidents or trivialize them by ritualizing them. Some misconstrue it as a power struggle of Imam Hussain.(a.s) But It was a struggle to restore legitimacy following the usurpation of power by those unfit to rule. His was a struggle to restore Islamic rule and values based on the pristine principles established by none other than the best of exemplars, the last and final Messenger of Allah (pbuh) to all humanity.
The historic and tragic tragedy of Karbala is full of lessons for us. The Karbala gave us lessons of bravery and courage (by Zainab binte Ali and his sister Ume Kulsoom ), self-sacrifice, unity and integrity, honesty and obedience (Abbas’s obedience and patience)and patience. It is the Karbala which teaches us right of a dignified life, right to liberty and stand against injustice and cruel and despotic rule. Karbala left for us that there is and will be victory of blood over sword and Karbala is indeed victory of humanity.
We all must always raise voice against the unjust and evil practices prevalent in society as a tribute to Martyrs of Karbala and should protest against the brutality of inhuman treatment at all times, no matter who does it and where it takes place.
“I learned from Hussain how to be wronged and be a winner.—Mahatma Gandhi
“The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Hussain and his companions were the rigid believers of God. They illustrated that numerical superiority does not count when it comes to truth and falsehood. The victory of Hussain despite his minority marvels me! —Thomas Carlyle
