SRINAGAR: Government College for Women (GCW), Nawakadal, Srinagar, today organized a one-day Rehabilitation Awareness Camp on the theme “Recovery is Possible: Understanding Substance Use Disorders and Rehabilitation” under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign.
The programme was organized by the College Well-Being and Anti-Substance Cell (CWASC) and coordinated by Dr. Nuzhat Jan, Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Waseem Ahmad, Nodal Officer. The awareness camp aimed to educate participants about the causes, consequences and treatment of substance use disorders, while promoting a supportive environment for recovery and rehabilitation.
Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of institutional safeguards, awareness and student welfare initiatives in combating substance abuse. She underscored the collective responsibility of educational institutions in fostering healthy and supportive learning environments.. Dr. Nuzhat Jan also shared her vision for sustained campus wellness programmes and highlighted the significance of continuous awareness and counselling initiatives to promote mental health and well-being among students.
On the occasion, Resource Person Dr. Nowfeema Nizam, Senior Resident, IMHANS Srinagar, delivered a keynote lecture highlighting the medical and psychological dimensions of substance use disorders. She provided valuable insights into prevention strategies, available treatment options and successful pathways to de-addiction and rehabilitation.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from teaching and non-teaching faculty members as well as staff, who actively engaged in interactive discussions on substance abuse prevention, rehabilitation and community support mechanisms. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards creating a drug-free society and strengthening awareness efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
