SRINAGAR: Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre (IEI-JKSC), organized a One-Day Seminar in observance of World Environment Day–2026 on the theme “A Global Call for Climate Action.”
The seminar brought together engineers, academicians, environmental experts, professionals, and students to deliberate upon the growing environmental challenges facing humanity and the urgent need for collective action towards sustainable development, environmental protection, climate resilience, and ecological conservation.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), addressed the gathering and highlighted the critical importance of climate action, environmental sustainability, and evidence-based policy interventions in addressing emerging ecological challenges. He emphasized the need for strengthening collaboration among academic institutions, professional bodies, policymakers, and civil society organizations to develop sustainable and resilient solutions for environmental protection and climate adaptation. He appreciated the role of IEI-JKSC in promoting technical awareness and constructive dialogue on issues of environmental significance.
Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, FIE, Chairman, IEI-JKSC underlined the increasing environmental challenges confronting societies across the globe, including climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, pollution, and unsustainable patterns of development. He also highlighted the role of the Institution of Engineers (India), J&K State Centre, as a professional platform for promoting technical discourse, knowledge sharing, professional excellence, and public. The technical session featured presentations by Er. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, MIE, Former Divisional Officer, J&K Pollution Control Board; Dr. Rayees Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, SSM College of Engineering and Er. Bashir Ahmad Dar, AMIE, Former Secretary (Technical), JKPDD who deliberated upon various environmental challenges affecting the region and highlighted the importance of environmental regulations, pollution control measures, sustainable resource management, scientific dimensions of climate change and emphasized the role of technological innovation, renewable energy solutions, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices in mitigating the adverse impacts of global warming and environmental degradation.
The seminar served as an important platform for meaningful discussions on climate action, environmental sustainability, ecological conservation, and the role of engineering and scientific innovation in promoting a greener, more resilient, and sustainable future.
