JAMMU: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu, organized an awareness programme under the NALSA JAGRITI Scheme at The Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla, Jammu, to educate Senior Citizens about their legal rights, entitlements and the free legal aid services available through the Legal Services Authorities.

The programme was conducted by Adv. Uma Kapahi, Adv. Jyoti Rani and Adv. Raghav Sharma, who sensitized the inmates about various legal protections available to Senior Citizens under the law. The resource persons particularly emphasized that elderly persons facing issues relating to family disputes, neglect, abandonment, maintenance, property matters or unauthorized occupation of their property by family members or others should approach the District Legal Services Authority without hesitation, as free legal assistance and guidance would be provided to them.

The speakers elaborated on the provisions available under various welfare legislations and highlighted the role of Legal Services Authorities in ensuring access to justice for vulnerable and marginalized sections of society. The inmates actively participated in the interactive session and sought clarifications on issues concerning their rights, security and legal remedies.

The programme was attended by Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary of the Institution, Sr. Rajinder Singh and Sat Pal Sharma, Members of the Managing Committee, along with Social Activist Raghav Gupta.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dinesh Gupta expressed his gratitude to the District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, for organizing the awareness programme and empowering Senior Citizens with valuable legal knowledge. He observed that such initiatives play an important role in safeguarding the dignity, rights and interests of elderly persons and enable them to seek timely assistance whenever required.

The management and inmates of the Ashram highly appreciated the initiative of DLSA Jammu and expressed hope that similar legal literacy and awareness programmes would continue to be organized in the future for the benefit of Senior Citizens and other vulnerable sections of society. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session followed by a vote of thanks.
