SHOPIAN: Under the ongoing 100-Day campaign of Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA), a series of awareness and sports activities were organized across Shopian district to promote healthy lifestyles, physical fitness and a drug-free society among youth.
The Department of Youth Services & Sports, Shopian organized an Inter-School District Level Kho-Kho Tournament for Girls (U-19) at Gunj Bakhsh Arham Hanfiya Public School, Shopian. Students from various Higher Secondary Schools of the district participated enthusiastically in the tournament, displaying remarkable sportsmanship, teamwork and competitive spirit.
The event aimed to encourage physical fitness and channel the energy of youth towards constructive activities while spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The tournament witnessed active participation from students and staff, making it a successful sporting event under the NMJKA campaign.
The athletics meet witnessed a massive turnout at the open Play field in Zainapora with a large number of female students from various educational institutions across the zone. The young athletes competed across multiple track and field events under 14, under 17, and under 19 age groups.
Meanwhile, the Department of AYUSH Shopian, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services & Sports, organized a Yoga Awareness Session at Government High School Sindu Shirmal and Government UPS Balpora. The session highlighted the role of yoga in maintaining physical and mental well-being and emphasized its importance in leading a healthy, addiction-free life.
Participants were sensitized about the benefits of regular physical activity, mindfulness and healthy lifestyle choices as effective tools in combating substance abuse. The programmes received an encouraging response from students and teachers alike.
These activities form part of the district-wide efforts being undertaken under NMJKA to engage youth in positive pursuits and strengthen the collective resolve towards building a healthier, drug-free Shopian.
Besides, electric sub division Shopian, Govt. Polytechnic college Shopian, Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, GDC, Shopian, Electric Sub Division, Chitragam and other departments conducted multiple events during the day.
