SHOPIAN: As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumer health, the Food Safety Team Shopian today conducted a comprehensive inspection drive in the main market areas of Shopian town. During the inspection, various retail shops, grocery outlets and fruit vendors were checked for compliance with food safety standards.

The team examined the quality, storage conditions, packaging, labeling and expiry dates of food items being sold to consumers. The inspection was aimed at curbing the sale of substandard and misbranded food products and creating awareness among food business operators regarding the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

During the drive, violations of food safety norms were detected at certain establishments, and a fine of Rs 3,000 under section 69 was imposed and realized on the spot from erring vendors.

The Food Safety team also sensitized shopkeepers about maintaining proper hygiene, ensuring safe storage of food products and strictly adhering to food safety regulations to safeguard public health.

They said that such inspection drives will continue across the district and urged food business operators to comply with prescribed standards to avoid penal action. They also appealed to consumers to remain vigilant and report any food safety concerns to the concerned authorities.
